like the way you can choose multiple to delete?

in gmail, yes. just checkbox on multiple unread messages and press menu>mark read. dont know about the regular email client though

I don't think you can do this from within the regular Email client, I just tried it there myself and I couldn't find the same option. The regular Email client doesn't have near the functionality as the Gmail client, unfortunately.
