Is there an app/hw/sw that I can use to turn my phone into a remote ?

My phone is an android Samsung j3 prime and I'm wanting to use it as a remote for my lg blueray dvd player and I don't have any ir hardware, or a blaster and my dvd player isnt connected to my wifi network yet, therefore I am attempting to find another way, by using my charging port and or usb connections. My dvd player provides bdlive, dvd video, avchadmi, hdmi, fullhd1080p, dts-hd master audio, dolby true hd digital plus, and energy star. Network blueray displayed bd630. I do not want to root my phone , as it will make my user warranty null and void. If there is no other way I might be willing to do so, but there is always another way. I own an hp pavilion dn4-2015dx entertainment PC and will also use that if need be. Hopefully somebody can educate me about this and help me reach my expected outcome .

There's a trick I've seen (on howto? youtube? somewhere) of connecting an LED to a phone plug, plugging it into the phone jck and running some app to simulate an IR blaster and a remote. I didn't bookmark it, but if you search you may find it.
