or is that something proprietary to LG?

I'm not sure about that. But, what about using the option of passing your hand over the device to wake the screen?

Knocking on the screen is ok but I think just waving your hand over the screen is way cooler! Just my opinion!

It could be, but knocking on screen can be done one handed. Suppose you could set it up to do it both ways and have the option to do it the way that is beneficial at the moment. The wave way you don't need Nova, so that might be a bonus.

The wave doesn't need nova it's stock b built in.

Well... THANKS A LOT!!! (sense my sarcastic tone here?) :)

I took your advice and turned on Gesture wake up. It worked great. I wave my finger over it, the phone turned on.

However, my cat was watching me do it. The Note 5 was on the coffee table. I went to bed after that.

Guess what happened? Yes, this morning I found him slapping his paw over the Note 5 over and over and over and over. He must have been playing with it all night because the batter was full before I went to sleep. When I discovered him playing it, the battery had gone down to 30%. The battery meter shows screen had been on almost 4 hours.

My cat thanks you for keeping him amused all night long.

UPDATE: right after I posted the above, I went to take the Note 5 away from my cat. He slapped my hand and tried to bite me!!! I was shocked. He has always been a little angel, now he has turned into a little mean cat. I had to distract him with cat treats and "steal" the Note 5 back.

(not my actual cat or phone, but I found him in a similar position this morning)

Back in the days of VCRs my cat would bat the lights and buttons when ever program would come on. we finally had to cover the faceplate to record anything .

Just pressing the home key once turns it on...

Not as sexy I guess, but simple

You know what I would steal from LG though for my Note 5 is the way LG allows you to reconfigure the home keys (albeit they're on screen) and especially the ability to add one that brings down the notification drawer. That was so handy for a large phone.

Nova Prime has gestures you can program. A couple I use...

Swipe up anywhere on the screen opens the app drawer (I also removed the icon/shortcut for the app drawer).

Swipe down anywhere on the screen pulls down the notification drawer.

Double tap anywhere on the screen opens Nova's settings.

Etc...

I believe you can with root -- without it I don't think it is possible.

This is the only thing I miss about my LG g3

I though rooting the Verizon Note 5 was impossible at this time?

It is IIRC -- Just saying that feature can't be enabled w/o it. Such as I know my 6P could support it if I wanted but I would have to root to enter the command to enable it.

What about this app, I haven't tried it yet?

PS hey it worked! You can do more than turn the screen on/off! Also not rooted!
