Is there an email app that delivers directly to me without needing a stock email app?

Email app that delivers directly required

I have a Nexus7 (2013) and it came with two email apps .... Gmail and the stock Email.

I have my own domain and email provider so don't use Gmail.

The stock email is very basic and I can't find any reference to the privacy policies of this app. Gmail is a little better but Google would store my emails and scan the contents for their own purposes which I don't want to happen.

Blue Mail is very good but again my emails would be retrieved by them from my provider and stored on their servers and possibly scanned for there own purposes.

Cloudmagic appears the same

What I would like is a better email app than the stock one, that delivers my emails directly to me and hence not used by any other party.

Thxs

I don't know if any 3rd party app is going to give you the privacy you're wanting. The only way they can work is to access your email via POP or IMAP, and send a copy of the emails through their own system. There might be one that would promise not to scan your emails for marketing purposes, etc, but they're all going to technically be able to see your emails, because they have to retrieve a copy for the app to work. As mentioned above, probably the only way to be truly secure like it sounds like you want, is to use a web browser to log in directly to your server's email client.

I'm a little confused by what YAYTech just posted. My understanding is that Android e-mail clients like K-9 and the stock e-mail app use POP, IMAP, or Exchange protocols to directly access the server of your e-mail provider and directly download your mail to your device, without transferring your mail to any other third-party server. Is this correct?

I'm trying K9 now and it seems to fit the bill.

Email apps don't need to read the contents if the client just runs on the device and fetches the data directly from the email providers server, in much the same way as if you were using webmail via a browser. It's just that an email app such as K9 is easier to use than running Firefox and logging into webmail.

From what I understand K9 runs solely on your device, there is no other server or intermediary involved.

Like many things there is seldom a free lunch. Blue Mail, Cloudmagic, Google etc need to make some money somehow and if you ain't paying $$ then you're paying in some other way.

Take a look at the terms of service for products like Blue Mail and you'll see that they actually capture your emails on their servers first before sending them to you - then ask why they need to do this. Google and Microsoft admit to scanning your emails.

I switched from gmail to Proton:

It works on tablets, but all I've used it on is a pc.

It has lots of promise, but the email interface is bare-bones right now. I really like their attitudes though.

I've been using Maildroid for years. Not sure how it stacks up with others mentioned here but it meets my needs.
