I read that you don't need root to install these apks, but you need to go to Settings >Security, and select Unknown Sources

This is going to sound stupid, but does the radio only play through the headphones, since they need to be plugged in to act as the antenna? Or can the sound be played out of the speakers while the headphones are in?

And I'm not sure...the HTC FM Radio is looking a little sleeker...

Next Radio allows you to play thru headphones or speakers but either way the headphones have to be plugged in because it is the antenna

NextRadio is the nicer app. They both function well. But NextRadio looks nicer. It's more visually appealing.

I am using the HTC One M8 by Verizon. FM Radio was not installed.
On another site I discovered that other carriers use the NextRadio app. At first, the NextRadio app wouldn't Install because it is not allowed on my Verizon phone.
So, I found the APK on internet. And yes, I went into the google security and authorized "unknown sources".
From the website I downloaded the file to my Verizon HTC M8. Using a file manager, I located the file on phone, tapped it, and it installed with no problem
I am listening to the FM radio as I type this.

Just installed the HTC FM Radio and it works like a charm! I'm going to go ahead and install NextRadio and see how that works.

NextRadio is newly available on all carriers for the M8 so you might want to try downloading it again!
