Is there any SimpleRoot option for Mac?

A lot of folks, such as myself, have dumped the iPhone for the EVO. Many of us are Mac users. There have always been Mac programs to fully unlock and/or jailbreak the iPhone. This is an area that seems to be lacking in the Android community.

I used Unrevoked3 on the 1.47 update. Runs pretty good. But I want better. I want to be able to run Cyanogen Mods. But it seems like it doesn't work with UR3 as it doesn't unlock the NAND.

I'm not a programmer. I pop a blood vessel in my head when I try and do math.

I will pay, if need be, to have a Mac option to do a full root. I'm sure others would, as well.

This community is full of really smart, helpful people. Is there anyone out there who can offer us Mac users assistance?

It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to use Unrevoked 3...

You need to Flash an Eng-PC36IMG

Unfortunately you will lose Nand Access that you do have... **Go into recovery if you have Clockwork then you have NAND**

From there it gets complex but you need to Stay with it...

Better yet... Since your horrible at math and seem to not have patience

Maybe someone else if better to help you...

My Help will just be long and drawn out...

Just for Reference you def need Eng-HBoot 0.76.2000 to flash CM6

Thanks, d3. I actually have plenty of patience when it comes to this stuff. I'm good at teaching myself. And I'd rather learn how to do it myself than have it done for me so that I could teach others.

The problem is that I'm so new to android that I don't yet understand all the terminology.

I have ClockWorkMod installed through ROM Manager. I tried to run Fix Permissions but keep getting an error.

I appreciate any and all help.

I'm not too familiar with MAC but cant you just run boot camp and use SimpleRoot OTA?

Edit - just noticed your SN. I sold my ducati last week :-/

Borrow a buddy's windows laptop for a few hours and do the full Root

Once you have done everything and nand is unlocked then you can load roms to your memory card wether its a pc or mac and do the flash from the phone. Its really easy.. just hold down vol down and power when u boot, go to recovery, and choose "flash ( whatever your roms name is.zip)

Use your mac to download all the newest roms through USB/File Manager

Only Issue is you need to have the Engineering HBOOT 0.76.2000 to flash CM6

I went thru this for 2 days its not the easiest thing in the world to accomplish...

I rooted with simple root using a parallels VM with Vista.

I think bow that I'm rooted I can do future upgrades with adb push actions from the sdk. The key is getting the initial rooting done.

It is likely feasible with MAC, but is it worth the effort? For learning purposes absolutely. Otherwise maybe not so much ;)

sounds like you only need HBOOT 0.76.2000. I have a MAC too and I ran into this problem a few days ago. I used Unrevoked3 and then i went to this thread to get hboot

[TUTORIAL] How To Unlock Nand Protection ~ Part-2 [Gaining RW Access/Full Root] - xda-developers

Just follow the steps and stop after the reboot following the flash of the PC36IMG.zip which is in step 3

since your on mac you would use Terminal and the commands are the same except for when u type "adb" for mac its "./adb"

After doing this you should be able to flash CM6 just like i did.

i just used the "simple root" method with vmware and bootcamp. couldnt be easier. i say install windows on you machine in a virtual machine, as there are lost of "hack" type things that are best used in windows. VMWARE rocks. so easy and loads right in osx

Hmmm, you like vmware better than parallels? I just hate having to spend all that coin on windoze.

i just followed the starting over thread and have had absolutely no issues flashing cm6. i also spent 2 days trying to figure this out....but what took me so long was figuring out that i needed to follow the start over thread after root in order to have ra recovery.

How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!) - xda-developers

simpleroot + start over + flash cm6 = win

i have a mac and the only time i needed windows was for simpleroot. i accomplished that in 40 minutes (it took two attempts before root took). plus i was being overly cautious and following along with the video.

i have not needed windows for anything else.
