Hello all I apologize if there is an answer somewhere here on the forum but I was wondering if there is anyway to use the captivate without activating the phone through at&t or another carrier (flashing). I would be purchasing the phone at full price from best buy and would like to use it for all of its features except as a phone since Samsung for the time being is not bringing out the mb2 mp3 player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

so if you want to use it like an ipod touch?
It should work
Works with out a sim

Best Buy has the Captivate listed as $599. If you are on ATT and want to buy it outright from them off contract, you can probably get it for around $379. Just don't activate it or put in a SIM card. It should work fine.

It may have changed, but I bought mine in August at the no commitment price for $379. That way I still had my upgrade available in October, which I used to get my wife an iPhone. I had to call ATT and talk to someone to get the $379 price though, not through the website.

im sorry but what kind of a question is this.

why in the world would you even bother doing this?
i dont even know if youll be able to install apps. on my phone when i dont have service but i ahve wifi my apps dont start downloading til im out of class where i have service.

if you have a phone bail on it and get the captivate cuz theres no point in buying a 400 dollar ipod touch
Actually i think thats worst than getting an ipod touch and i myself dont like apples phones that much, it was cool when it first came out but they arent as innovative as when they first came out

Yes you can install apps, yes you can use it normally.. to get past the activation screen, simply press the menu button and connect to WIFI.

It's easy.. i have about 7 or so Android phones and they all work fine on just wifi.
