Is there EVER going to be a one touch root?

Damn thing has been out for a month and still nothing. I do not want to have to start from scratch. Has there been anything about this?

I understand there is also an update coming. Is that going to whack everyone's root? I really want to do this but that would piss me off beyond words.

What gives?

One touch root? Eventually. Doing that the 'ol fashioned way ain't so bad and kinda fun if I say so myself :p

Update? You betcha its coming.

Will it screw the root? Well you probably won't be able to install it if you're rooted is my guess. You'd have to go back to stock in order to update.

But for those of us that are rooted... there are going to be ROMs based on the update anyway :)

But would apply the update ROM wipe all the settings?

Thats just it. I don't think rooted phones would have the update pushed to them. And for people that are NOT rooted, applying the update won't wipe anything at all. It'll just apply the update and thats it. It would be like Windows telling you its going to install a new update and you'd have to reboot. Everything would still be there when you log back in, but with the nice new update in tow!

There is no easy exploit in the current firmware on the device. The firmware has to be downgraded in order obtain root. That's a lot of steps to cover. There is a one-click method available, but I don't think it's too reliable.

The adb method took me a half hour. As long as you follow directions closely you shouldn't have a problem. The auto-root method seems just as good as well.

And I'm not worried about getting the official update. The developers will have their hands on it in no time.

This. I think what actually ended up taking me longer was rereading what I typed in cmd to make sure I had everything spelled correctly lol

I wouldn't count on there being a root that won't wipe the data for some time, if ever. My understanding is that HTC threw some interesting locks onto this kernel, so its more difficult to root than many of the other devices out there.

I'm sure someone else can keep me honest, but thats what I've read here, and at a couple of other forums.

It would make sense if people wanted a one-click root just to remove bloat, but if they're going to be flashing roms/kernels etc. Then I think learning how to use adb is a good starting point.

When I first rooted, it was just to debloat and get wireless tether, but after going through all of that I figured I might as well go all in. My phone hasn't been stock since 1 week after owning it, and I change it probably 3 times a week.
