Is there some reason why SMS locator apps do not work with FreedomPop?

Hello,
I have downloaded 3 different SMS locator apps (Locate vis SMS, TrackLoc, and SMS Locator) to a Nexus 4 phone with a FreedomPop sim card. With these apps, I'm supposed to be able to send an sms from another phone to the Nexus 4 with a "locate" command, and the Nexus 4 is supposed to reply automatically with the GPS coordinates of the Nexus 4, and a link to its Google Maps position. Unfortunately, all 3 apps are not working with FreedomPop. The Nexus 4 receives the SMS with the command but does not reply with its location. I put in a sim from a different provider, and the apps then worked as they should. Is there some reason why FreedomPop does not work with these apps? Any fix?

Doesn't FreedomPop use their own app to send "SMS" over data, not cellular?

Thanks for the reply, you must be right. I suppose the result would be the same with Google Voice?
