Is there way to set the dialer to default to the number pad?

I hate how clicking on the phone icon brings up my most often dialed contacts. I have accidentally dialed people because of this.

I want my phone to default to the number pad every time I open the dialer. Is this possible or do I need to download an app for that functionality?

You have to be rooted to make changes on dialer.
