Is this a battery problem? (Samsung Galaxy S4)

My Samsung Galaxy S4 is about 2 and a half years old and the screen has been flickering for quite a while now almost permanently. Also now sometimes when the charger is in it doesn't recognise it until I manipulate it into a certain position. Could a new battery solve these problems or is the phone on its way out. I really can't afford a new one or to up my monthly payment pan to get a new phone.
