I tend to leave 4G on constantly in my area (living in the 4th largest metropolitan area in the U.S. doesn't hurt) and don't notice such a drain in battery. I used to work in a basement that had horrible 4G and 1X reception, and in that area I would just connect to the company's Wifi.
To me the biggest factor is probably going to be all the notifications. [soapbox] Not sure if I stated it here or somewhere else, but my life tends to not revolve around getting a notification for every minutia of all the acquaintances or celebrity news that don't affect me on a personal level. [/soapbox] Not to say that it's not up to me to preach to someone that does enjoy being the first to know about what celebrity is doing what with what other celebrity. But the trade-off is going to be significantly reduced battery life. I actually think the N3 does a great job with regards to the battery, but if you're going to have a dozen notifications every 10 minutes, I don't think any portable device is going to appease your appetite.
