Issue trying to unroot

Hi all,

I need to take my EVO in to Sprint and went through the steps of unrooting. (FYI, when I rooted, I never changed my ROM.) I moved unrevoked-forever-son.zip to the SD card and installed it. I tried to flash PC36IMG.zip but it said it was an older version, so I skipped that since I assume my original ROM is newer.

I did that, removed all the root related apps, and to test to see if it was completely unrooted I tried to install the new OTA update. I got the same error symbol I got before, which was the android character and the exclamation point, which my understanding is because the installer sees that the system filed have been messed with (i.e. rooted) and won?t install.

Can anyone give me some ideas on what I did wrong? How can I confirm for sure that it is unrooted?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Thanks. This might be a silly question, but Is there a way to confirm that a device is back to pre-rooted stage?

yea. . . . when Super user app is gone.
S is still off on my phone, but superuser is gone since I did the 3.70RUU and then ran the GB update

Did you ever get the phone back to "pre-root" stage?

I'm having the same issue and the "correct" PC36IMG.zip version doesn't seem to exist.

The sites that are suppsoed to have the RUU dont exist either. What is going on?

I don't know what to do. I'm close to throwing my EVO down a cliff or something and getting a new one. This is so frustrating.

I used Unrevoked for my root, then followed the "steps" on "How to Unroot your HTC EVO 4G".

When I got to flashing the PC36IMG.zip it says it is the wrong version. I can't install the latest update and the superuser button is still visible even though I have the S-ON.

Anybody know what to do?:'(:(

Oh boy. This is why i dont recommend the unrevoked forever tool, but alas here we are.

Before anything, what software version are you on?

I hope this is the information you need. Thank for any help you can supply. :)

Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.11.19
Software Number: 3.70.651.1

I guess I will try somewhere else in the forums. This discussion seems to have gone dead. :'(

I don't have the links right off hand but there is a thread over at XDA that deals with this exact problem and is a two step method. From what i recall it works for unrevoked as well as other methods. Try a Google search on unroot in two steps.. In the meantime I'll try and find ya the link. Good luck!

Edit; here it is, topic is "how to unroot in two easy steps", you might have to copy and paste the link..

Hope that helps!
