Issue with file transfers?

Hi everyone, so I recently went and bought a Nexus 6P and am loving it so far. I also went ahead and bought a USB female to USB type C adapter to read USB devices and other stuff. However I'm noticing that when I connect my old iPhone to the device using the adapter I'm not able to access my videos to import. I only have access to the photos. Is there any way to fix this issue or get around it? I tested my adapter with other devices and its working fine so I don't think it's got anything to do with the adapter. If anyone could help me out on this issue it would be great thanks!!

P.S: I know I could just connect my old iPhone to a computer to transfer the files but I was just wondering if there was a way to do this without the PC component.
