I have noticed with this phone that all photos save to photos in Google Photos, and there is no subdivision into screenshots, apps, etc. It's in one bulk view.

I am trying to determine if this is a phone issue or a Google Photos issue. I never had this issue on my Pixel 2XL.

Can someone with knowledge provide me tips and advice on how to resolve?

Thank you.

In Google Photos, the main view is essentially your photos "feed," which includes all photos you took with your camera app and any other photos that are backing up to Google Photos. If you set other folders (like Screenshots) to back up to Google Photos, then that's why they show up in your main feed. You can see individual folders by tapping Library at the lower right, then looking at Photos On Device.

There is no screenshots folder. No Pokemon Go folder. No Tweet2Gif folder. No downloads folder. Those folders don't exist. Everything gets consolidated into Camera, and they're not regular camera pics.

When you open Google photos at the bottom you have 3 options ...photos/search/library
Tap search and scroll down to other categories like screen shot, selfies etc..

What do you see in the Photos On Device section?

Okay I deleted and reinstalled. PoGo and Tweet2Gif have their own folders. So does downloads. It had to be a weird glitch.

However, Screenshots doesn't have a separate folder, and it did on my Pixel. It's accessible under search but the folder was easier and nicer to navigate to. If I can fix that, I'd be 100 percent, but otherwise I'm back to normal I guess.

Oh, I remember what the issue is -- Samsung's Screenshots folder is a subfolder of the /DCIM folder, which is peculiar to Samsung. Pretty much all other manufacturers have the Screenshots folder as a subfolder of the /Pictures folder. Since Screenshots is a subfolder of /DCIM on your phone, that means Photos will think the screenshots were actually taken by the camera app. See this article: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...clude-screenshots-from-google-photos-backups/

Ahhhhh that explains it.

I did see a thread on this site from three years ago while Googling. PinSync is a 99-cent app that basically immediately relocates your screenshots ASAP to a new folder. I changed it from PinSync's default folder to a new one called Screenshots in the same area of the directory. Working so far.

This is quite right. I found that Google Photos saves pics differently on my LG V40. vs my Note 9 and N20U. Too bad they're doing away with the whole free storage option next year.

When I create a new album, Gallery crested a folder in that /DCIM. Annoyed me and could not understand why. Tx.

If I create an alum in Files app, it creates it in Pictures, which is where I am. But it doesn't put me there, I have to open it first. Talking about moving photos from another location. Twitter and Tumblr are not in DCIM or Pictures.

Never uded realized Google Photos search feature.

Because ii have Office and a Mac and PC I have OneDrive. So I've got both and not sure which of the two to use for photos. I prefer iCloud for photos.

Why? No duplicates. It tells you if s photo already exists. A photo can be in two albums, it links to a photo, so no duplicates crested or showing up.

Gallery has its own Samsunh folder on OneDrive. I had to go in and move my Gallery folders along with Documents and Downloads up into OneDrive area. Messy.

I can upload photos to iCloud from my Note or S20. And that eorks, has gotten better but have to pause AdGuard and AdGuard VPN.

Moving photos to/from one cloud host to another is possible but not ideal. I can export iCloud in batches of 999 at a time. Google limits 500 at a time. If you select more, there is no warning.

I have about 200GB worth going back 20 years, mist in last 9.

Oh, and then there's Amazon that I started with originally and free to Prime.

I've tried to download everything to a SDXC card. When I did, Samsung would be very slow if I tried to search and share and find an album. I ended up having to unmount the card. And albums and photos are not in any order.

So for straying off topic somewhat. I'll have to revisit Google Photos.
