Issue with phones microphone, Only Google assistant can hear me

[Android Central Question]

People cannot hear me at all when I make a call, and using the Audio Recorder app I'm only audible when speaking very loud into the mic, speach to text into SMS also doesn't work and saying Ok Google doesn't open the assistant app.

However, if I click the app and touch the microphone icon It can pick up what I'm saying just fine.

This problem is still occurring even after I reset my phone and I can't figure out what to do next. Anyone have any ideas?

The mic is close-talking, to avoid picking up background noise. That means less than a foot. If you need to be heard from across the table, plug in a mic made for that, like the WordForum.
