Anyone having this issue? It's a bigger issue using it from the watch. It won't use the contact list 100%, in watch just says I don't understand that. If I say call or text wife on my watch it says I don't understand that, other names is hit and miss. I use wife for my wife because it usually will not recognize my wife's name. When I use the phone and say text wife, it does nothing. If seems like if you aren't using a name it acts up more. I have a friend I have listed as stupid and that comes across as I don't understand. Worked fine before Gemini. Speaking of advanced Gemini, look what they plan on charging for that.. Not happening, just give me Google assistant, they finally got it working decent and then they change things.

Gemini is optional (and the paid tier is the 'premium' version, not the basic Assistant-equivalent one). You can always switch back to Assistant on your phone (your watch, by the way, does NOT use Gemini, it is still Assistant, as is Android Auto).

I know this, and I did switch back, still having the issues. I've uninstalled, reinstalled assistant on both devices, I even reset the watch and redid that and still issue.

My presumption is Google is intentionally dumbing the Google Assistant down. Mine no longer understands basic things nor can it consistently do things it used to like answer a basic question with a small summary.

I can't say I've had any issues with contacts but you're giving me yet another reason to hate Google.

That aside, I don't like Gemini but don't think it's the issue either. Are you maybe saying "My wife" without realizing? That's a case for example where you

I wish I was unintentionally saying my wife. I've been using wife for years with no issue and I'm positive I'm trained to say just wife. It won't let me say stupid anymore either. I changed the names in contacts with their names and it recognizes the stupid real name, but when I use my wife's name it at least now doesn't say I don't understand, it just does it thing like any other person but then just times out. All I know it was working fine before Gemini and the AI stuff. There's a way to turn Gemini off but I just haven't had time to do that yet and of course it's not easily done, Samsung is learning well from Apple.

I have no need or want Gemini, specially advanced Gemini whatever that is, $20 a month I'm not interested.

I have premium (free with the phone), makes no difference. I can get mad and call it a f-idiot and it still melts like a snow flake on how it has feelings and keep things respectful but I ask it for the weather tomorrow and it does "here are some results I found on the web".

Oh gee thanks, I only asked because I couldn't look at my
screen...

I mainly use Bixby or a hacky solution I made for Google to trigger ChatGPT now. What s sad world where Bixby, the thing everyone wanted gone is better than Google Assistant let alone their "AI" Added Infuriation.

Have you guys enabled Gemini's extensions? Does the Google app have all the permissions enabled? I do not experience any of the issues you are referring to (neither with Assistant nor with Gemini)... if anything my only gripe is that I prefer the voice of Assistant to the ones found in Gemini.

I have the 2TB AI premium plan currently for free until Jan 2026, stacked promotions from Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. I'll redeem the offer from S25 Ultra in Jan 2026 to extend it for another 6 months.

I personally love Gemini advanced and will pay for the annual 2TB AI premium plan once my promotions are over, which anyway won't be until next year. Before this I had the 2 TB regular Google One annual plan.

I'll have to research more. Right now I pay the $20 a year for Google One storage so maybe Gemini is more a name change? I don't know, AI isn't that big of deal to me.

It's fine, you have the option to choose Google One plans with or without AI/Gemini Advanced. If you don't use Gemini advanced or care about it, you always have the option to choose the Google One plans without AI.

The $20 per year is the Basic Google One plan with 100 GB storage, which doesn't include Gemini Advanced/AI.

Note, everyone has free access to Gemini which should be sufficient for most folks, especially if you don't care about AI.

Was just looking at that this morning. It's $20/mo but it's bundled with the max storage and other perks that come with the premium plan. It wasn't showing an option to pay annually to save 16% like all the other plans, but it did say 6 months free and that's with the S25U.

Still too much for my needs. I'd never come close to using that kind of storage.
