Issues with note 8 on Android auto?

I just got a 2018 buick with intellilink which has Android auto. The unit will not recognize my note 8. It just charges it . The phone will connect via Bluetooth. Is anyone else having issues with their note 8? I tried deleting/installing Android auto. Messing with the USB debugger and tried different cables . Any ideas? I have the tmobile variant if that makes a difference
