Issues with touch buttons below the screen?

Hi there, I have 2 friends that are having problems with their touch buttons below the screen on their intercepts. I thought it was odd that both of them would have the same issue. Anyway, when you hit the home button it only works sporadically, even sometimes bringing up the "recent apps" window instead of going to the home screen. Their back button, and menu button are similarly working only sporadically. Is this an issue anyone else has seen?

Yes. My work just gave out a bunch of these to the lower level employees, and everyone (about 25 people) are all suffering the same problem to some extent.

i've noticed if you just press a little more firmly and press slightly above the buttons, it works better...

there is still defin something funky going on with how they react though...

Download a home replacement app (like Launcher Pro, ADW or Zeam) from the app store.

I use Zeam & it has made the phone way quicker & the dedicated keys respond almost always on first touch.

Zeam worked!

Thank you web0rama! I've been using LauncherPro and have noticed the lag or lack of response from the 4 softkeys on the Intercept. I've put Zeam on and they work like a charm!

Mixed results with Zeam. After 2 days of use I do think there's been a definite improvement, but there's still the occasional blank. Not going back to stock, but may give LP and/or ADW a try as well.

This has been the only issue that's really aggravated me about the phone. Putting an InvisiShield on it seemed to make it worse. I've been thinking of trimming and peeling off the part that covers the buttons. Don't if I really care if that part of the screen get's scuffed up.

I use Go Launcher Ex Home Replacement App from Android Market. It works better and is much more responsive than Stock Home App. It has tabs for All Apps, Recent used Apps and Running Apps. Once can gracefully close Running Apps if not needed or go to those Apps.

As always, please press End Call/Power button once if Menu, Home, Back and Search Keys go to sleep and do not respond. Pressing End Call/Power button wakes those keys up.
