issues with voice mate....

When I turn off the voice activation feature it works fine with no network error. Sad, but at least it works.

i realize that my comment that I am making does not help the Voice Mate issues in this thread (and for that, I apologize), but lately, Google Now seems to be getting to the point where it seems much better and does more than Voice Mate. That said, I do not really use either on a day to day basis, so I don't know what might be missing or the differences between the two (perhaps more knowledgeable users can comment here), but Google Now does seem to do a lot. But I don't know if it can read your incoming text messages and emails which I think Voice Mate does...? I guess it depends on what you use the voice services for but for a few of you, GN might fit the bill instead of VM?

Thanks to a couple of reports from other Aussie users on the Whirlpool 'LG G2 general discussion' forum today (who also have model D802T, same as mine) I can confirm that this issue is NOT related to the Kit Kat upgrade. It also occurs for some users who are still on Jelly Bean. Very odd.

That's right. My D802T running Jellybean had malfunctioning Voice Mate (partial failure on WiFi, complete failure on mobile data) due to "network connection" errors. I did a factory reset and then restored all apps and settings from a backup, and Voice Mate now works completely fine.

I decided to contact LG about this issue again, not because it bothers me greatly (I think Google Now is perfectly fine instead of Voice Mate) but just because I am a curious so-and-so :-)

Last time they referred me to their Service Centre, who told me that they'd re-install Kit Kat for me. I decided not to go to that much bother. This time I explained to LG that it's definitely not a KK issue, since others are reporting the same issue who are still on Jelly Bean.

They told me that as far as they knew, this issue is unknown to them, but that it will be escalated to Level 2 support, who will call me back if they have anything to suggest which may help. I'm not holding my breath for that phone call, but if/when it happens, I'll post back here with any suggestions that they make.

I'm having the same issue. I called LG support and the guy said that while this was indeed the correct department, he had no idea how to fix it. He agreed that he couldn't be much help and that I probably should think about a different phone.

LOL, like the G3?

Seriously, between the pre-installed software bugs coupled with the fact that the newest OTA update never successfully installs on my G2, resulting in a perpetual re-download every 2 days (and being given the run-around between LG and the provider re. fixing this), I think this will be the last LG phone I buy.

I did a support chat with LG today. Synopsis: Agent didn't believe me that you can activate Voice Mate by speaking "LG MOBILE" (starts at 9:40 in transcript). As a result, I got nowhere.

9:33 AM Louis: Hello Jim Ngo. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today?
9:34 AM Jim Ngo: I have a problem with Voice Mate.
9:34 AM Louis: I would be happy to help you with that.
9:34 AM Louis: What kind of problem?
9:35 AM Jim Ngo: If I speak 'LG MOBILE' to activate it, I always get a "Network not available" message, but it works fine. If I tap the icon to activate, I never get that message.
9:36 AM Louis: I would like to please place you on a brief hold while I research that for you, will that be alright?
9:37 AM Jim Ngo: yes
9:38 AM Louis: Did it used to work before?
9:38 AM Jim Ngo: I just got this phone and I am trying to use it for the first time.
9:40 AM Louis: Ok thanks what happen that's normal you need to press the icon first to activate it.
9:41 AM Jim Ngo: So you can't activate it by speaking "LG Mobile?"
9:41 AM Louis: That's correct you can't activate it by just speaking.
9:41 AM Jim Ngo: I'm not sure that's true.
9:42 AM Louis: You can read the owners manual if you want to confirm it.
9:42 AM Louis: I found it there.
9:43 AM Jim Ngo: OK, hold on.
9:45 AM Jim Ngo: I can't find a link to the manual on your website.
9:45 AM Jim Ngo: <link edited out>
9:46 AM Louis: <link edited out>
9:46 AM Louis: Please go to this link, after you are in that web page scroll down till you read Manuals and Documents. Go to owner manuals section and under English pdf filename click at it to start the download.
9:46 AM Jim Ngo: Thanks
9:46 AM Louis: Do you have any other inquiries that you would like to discus ?
9:48 AM Jim Ngo: This is the feature: Voice activation - Tap to allow the Speak button to activate by saying a voice launch command.
9:48 AM Louis: Just you said it *Tap to allow the Speak button *
9:48 AM Louis: It means tap first then speak
9:49 AM Jim Ngo: No, that is the setting. Tap that setting to enable Voice Activation.
9:50 AM Jim Ngo: That is in Apps Key -> Voice Mate -> Menu Key -> Settings
9:51 AM Louis: Is up to you what you want to believe.
9:51 AM Louis: For more information you can get it from the manual .
9:51 AM Louis: Do you have any other inquiries that you would like to discus ?
9:51 AM Jim Ngo: I believe what I see on the phone and what I am reading in the manual.
9:51 AM Jim Ngo: Go to page 99 on the manual and read it yourself.
9:51 AM Louis: Then you can keep trying but it won't work.
9:52 AM Jim Ngo: I'm just curious: What do you think "voice activation" means? And why did LG put that into the manual?
9:53 AM Louis: I know what it means and I teaching you how to make it work.
9:53 AM Louis: You need to press the button first.
9:53 AM Jim Ngo: Aye yay yay.
9:53 AM Jim Ngo: LG Rep: "Voice Activation" means "Push the button first."
9:54 AM Jim Ngo: Am I correct now?
9:54 AM Louis: To use the voice mate you need to press the button first.
9:54 AM Jim Ngo: Then what is the "Voice Activation" feature?
9:56 AM Louis: You can use commands by using your voice but first you need to press the button to activate it like all the phones in the world or from LG.
9:56 AM Jim Ngo: OK. I give up.
9:56 AM Louis: Do you have any other inquiries that you would like to discus ?

Geeez that would be hilarious... if it weren't such a sad indictment on the absolute rubbish service they provide!!
I'll soon be taking my phone in to an LG Service Centre here in Australia to personally demonstrate the issue I'm having with my screen. Since I also have the Voice Mate issue, I'll demonstrate that as well at the same time, and will post back here if I find out anything remotely helpful from them about it...

Quick update: before I took the G2 to the LG service centre, I tried a couple of things:

1) Restored an old LG PC Suite backup from before I had this issue - VoiceMate issue fixed!
2) Then restored a more recent backup from after the issue had started - issue back again.
3) Finally, I did a full factory reset - issue fixed again.

All this proves is that it's something software-related - possibly some update to a 3rd-party app causing it - which I know doesn't help an awful lot. But I think that when I get the phone back I ought to try one more thing: a factory reset followed by updating just all the LG apps, without installing any 3rd party apps. If the issue returns at that point, I'll know it's an LG app causing it.

OK well I don't think it's one of the LG apps that's causing it. After a factory reset, followed by updating of all LG apps, but without installing any 3rd party apps, Voice Mate still works fine. (It actually won't run until you update three LG apps: Voice Mate, the QVoice Engine and the QVoice Speech Pack.)

So it's a 3rd party app that's causing this issue.

Incidentally, off topic, but I had a quick look at the EULA and Privacy Policy, which state "...you consent to the recording of your voice for the purposes of improving the voice-recognition capability of the Voice Mate App." and "If you use the Voice Mate app, LGE will also collect audio recordings of your voice to improve the voice-recognition capability of the Voice Mate App."

This explains why Voice Mate cannot run at all if you are not online. A bit scary that LG may be potentially keeping recordings of everything everyone has ever spoken into Voice Mate!

ISSUE SOLVED!

1) Uninstall updates to the Google Search app, so that it reverts to the factory-installed version (on my D802T G2 this is 3.3.12.1106182.arm, but that might vary depending on which G2 variant you own)

2) Re-check if Voice Mate hotword now works repeatedly as it should

3) If it doesn't, reboot the phone and re-check Voice Mate

Guaranteed it will work now :-)

Voice activation feature on Voice Mate is utterly useless. There's no doubt about it. I love my wife's old iPhone 4S with Siri. You can enable a feature that causes it to start listening to you when you pick up the phone and hold it to your ear. It just works. Why can't Voice Activation be intelligent? It's not for lack of technology. It's lack of passion on the part of developers to make it excellent.

hi guys, I have a solusion for the problem!!!!

if you get the"...no network connection..." in the voice mate app (or any other voice command app) just uninstall the "google" app הורד.jpe and the "google now" app and it will work.
there is probebly a missmach between the apps that causes the problem.

i monitored the problem and notinsed that when i install the apps the problem starts and when i uninstall them the broblem stops after restarting the phone.

hope it will work for you to, sorry for the bad spelling :)

Following my solution to this issue on 19th October above (ie. revert to the factory-installed version of the Google App) I decided to try Voice Mate again now that there have been a few updates to the Google App. It's currently at version 4.3.10.88581490 as I write this, and it's changed - it's a little more reliable now - instead of getting "There is a problem with the network connection...", it's now apt to respond with "That action has been cancelled... please try again" instead. But quite often, the voice activation actually does work repeatedly. So, gradually getting there! But on the whole, the app is pretty useless compared to Google Now.

That is definitely not the preferred method lol

By the way, I also discovered another problem cause by Google App - it prevents the G2's alarm from sounding whenever the situation arises that the screen happens to be on at the alarm time. Same with the countdown timer - if your screen is on when the countdown timer reaches zero, you will not get an audible chime.

Till that's fixed (which could well be never - can't imagine Google placing much importance on it just for the sake of G2 users) I have reverted to the older version (called "Google Search" rather than "Google App"). The main advantage of the newer Google App is that it gives you "OK Google" hotword detection from any screen - but I can live without that, for the sake of being woken up at the correct time each morning!

And I've long since stopped using Voice Mate for anything.
