Exactly. The ICS 4.1 update fixing that LTE radio issue was big. Releasing the phone would have been just idiotic regardless of what all the whiners think. Of course if VZW would have released it with known issues the same people would have been whining that VZW shouldn't have released it. No way to please some of these kids.

Anybody else wondering why they updated to 4.1. If versions will go by the old system this technically isn't ICS anymore

Wow a totally 'bug free' phone. Now that will be something to hear about. Everything will run perfectly, no problems with ICS. This would be a first.

And honestly, does anyone here on this forum really know why the GN has not been released?

Good call, didn't think of it that way.

1.5 - Cupcake
1.6 - Donut
2.1 - Eclair
2.2 - Froyo
2.3 - Gingerbread

Up until honeycomb the increase from 4.0 to 4.1 would usually indicated a new version of Android
Didn't the OG Droid start with 2.0, i.e. Eclair?

Apple dictated to verizon and verizon said go to h*ll years ago. That's why they went to ATT
This time around, Apple wouldn't sacrifice the design of the 4s to get LTE included.
Verizon is now going to be dictating to them what must be included and Apple will follow.

1. Google doesn't really care which Android phones sell as long as Android gets the win/sale. Google doesn't want tp push the G-nex too hard because they don't want to sabotage/alienate/cannibalize their other hardware partners ie HTC, Motorola, LG, Sony, et al. so they actually WANT a soft launch.
2. Samsung doesn't really care which Samsung phones sell as long as Samsung gets the win/sale. they are more than happy to sell GSIIs etc.
3. Verizon doesn't really care which Verizon phones sell as long as Verizon gets the win/sale. these guys just want to grow high value subscribers.

4. the general public/unwashed masses is interested in buying "Droids" and "Razrs" etc. because that is what the marketing is telling them to buy. they don't really know or care about the G-Nex and ICS. (at this point).

5. i wish Google would buy Sprint and use it as a foundation to build their own Google network on and thus combined with Motorola have a true pure Google end-to-end offering.

I'm not sure. I came on board with the dinc and 2.1 and wasn't too familiar with the droid. Might have been. I guess inconsistency with version numbering doesn't matter.

No matter what they or the phone manufacturer does, in this case Samsung, the carrier is in control.

Samsung and Google tried to speed up the introduction of the Galaxy Nexus by their gala unveiling weeks ago. Verizon wasn't ready. The phone doesn't ship until Verizon is ready. Period. End of story.

Apple learned this the hard way with AT&T and the iPhone. The carriers still rule the roost.

Can you elaborate on how AT&T "ruled the roost" with Apple. From my understanding, the exclusive agreement between Apple and AT&T essentially made AT&T Apple's b-tch. It was good for AT&T in that it saved their network. It was awful in just about every other way... too much of the monthly fee went to Apple so limited resources were available from iPhones for infrastructure investment, yet the iPhone taxed their networks badly and caused significant problems which impacted the public's perception of their network. They are still dealing with that negative perception even though the exclusive agreement is over now and AT&T's performance has improved significantly.

I'd bet senior management at AT&T would have to think long and hard if asked "Was the iPhone agreement worth it?" In the end they would probably say "yes", but the reward came with a heavy price.

I think there's more to this than meets the eye. I'm sure there were scuffles and arguments and discussions between the two companies to meet at a middle ground.

Apple wants it with X, AT&T wants it with X and Y. Apple doesn't like it and makes arguments, AT&T refuses, apple goes halfway, AT&T goes halfway, BOOM iphone release.

I feel like it was the same with Googrizon. They must have had arguments about pre-installed apps, release dates and whatnot and Verizon was like LOL DROIDS 4 LYFE and google was like okay.jpg.

There wasn't any scuffles. AT&T was on their a-s after their Cingular name change, loss of identity and old infrastructure. They needed Apple and gave them everything Apple wanted. The reason Apple stayed with AT&T for so long was because Apple got most of the monthly data plan fee. AT&T gave away their first born for that phone.

No, there was no haggling or dealing. AT&T bent over and Apple did what they wanted.

I doubt Apple rolls over for Verizon. When Apple has an announcement release date and price are included....none of this dickin around.
Exactly. The Apple agreement even includes how much of the store will be decorated with Apple advertisements... including prime locations in the front window and in the store. The main displays are also defined by Apple.

Apple still held and still does hold the cards on any carrier. Look at all the concessions each carrier made. T-Mobile was the only one to tell apple to stuff it. Apple announces the iPhone and with in a week or so its on all us carriers.vzw and sprint wanted bigger screens and wimax and lte and apple said no every one wants smaller screen and 4g wimax is still to buggy to work with. Guess who won just look at the iPhone 4s for the answer.

Only in our dreams. The iPhone and the accessories are a cash cow that every provider salivates over. As much as we might not like to admit it, Apple is considered by the general public as "the" ultra premium phone. Providers need it.

The providers may not be bending over like AT&T once did, but believe me, Apple is having their way with them. Like someone else said on this thread... just look at who makes the announcements and when the device is available. Apple makes the announcements and Verizon (and any other provider) had better snap to attention and release product exactly when Apple says it will be released.

God almighty, can we just stop whining about the whiners ............ some people on here are broken records.
