It is official No Micro SD - Product Fail

Everything is cloud now, my friend. Use Dropbox, Google Music, etc. I had a XOOM for 90 days and didn't miss the SD card once. Get over it.

I do a lot of travel out of state when I vacation and lots of times there are no connections to wifi. How do I access my cloud? Well no worry here I have 32gb internal chock full of media with an SD card just in case. Try this with a 16gb no SD card tablet, sorry something is bound to be left behind.

If 32gb of space really isn't enough for you in between trips with no wifi and the SD card adapter makes you angry, then sure, the Tab 10.1 isn't right for you. Go buy a Transformer.

After going to the gala last night, I will says the Galaxy is sweet but.....the lack of the USB, sdCard and HDMI slot is bad. The Toshiba Thrive has all these Tabs covered, July 13th can't come fast enough.

I have been waiting for this product all spring and will be unfortunately be heading to Costco today to repurchase a Xoom. It definitely weighs more, but offers a direct USB connection and Micro USB (that will hopefully work at some point Google). Samsung, if you are going to try to pull market share from Apple then you need a product that is significantly better. The same hardware specs (other than ram) and the newly released Honeycomb OS with limited apps is not the way to go. This was your chance. You were the first to market with thinnest tab. If you included the HDMI, USB and MicoSd that my significantly smaller EVO 4G has that was released exactly a year ago tomorrow the adoption rate would be much higher for this product. This is ultimately a sad day for Samsung and Android. Maybe the non wi-fi versions will have the MicroSD.
Why not get an Asus Transformer for $200 less? Add a $25 16GB microSD when you need it.

You would still have $175 left over to get the $150 keyboard dock that turns the Asus into a netbook if you want. The dock also brings an SD slot another battery, and more USB options. The Transformer is also lighter than the Xoom.

MAJOR FAIL with no sd slot. Wow. I really can't believe they dropped the ball like this... I have been waiting months for this tablet and then they pull this stunt?

For people who say it doesn't matter, you obviously have never traveled for more than 3 days at a time and wanted to tote along a pile of movies...

I have a 32GB iPad with 10GBs of music and at least 10 movies... I take it with me on week-long vacations and still have movies left over. Would it be nice to have the option to store more? Sure. But it is no where near a "fail". And like I have said earlier in this thread, if media storage is that big of a deal to you, get a wireless drive to stream your content. 500GB for $200, and can stream to three devices at once is a pretty good deal if you ask me

i agree with you, i don't see any failler at all the time that i have gone to Best Buy and i see people getting the iPad2 most of them don't even care about SD slot and card. i for one will be getting the 32gb tab 10.1 with the case then i'll get the wireless drive.

The only potential fail about this tab to me is touchwiz. Very little has been shown and it has a lot of potential of messing up the UI.

The lack of SD card support is pretty neutral in my book. I have had a Xoom for 2 months now and I still have 25 gb free on it. With Google Music up and running I am actually moving music around more on my tablet than I was with USB. HDMI is also a whatever. I have never once used HDMI on my phone or Xoom.

I don't see the lack of SD card slot a "fail" but I do see it as limiting their customer-base. So in that sense, it is a vision failure. Why exclude such a rudimentary requirement for so many users? Just look at their own website, over a hundred comments and most are asking for an SD card slot.

I'm one of the folks that unfortunately won't be purchasing due to this. After waiting and drooling for months, the lack of an SD card is a deal breaker for me. The added flexibility of having the extra storage if needed is key. The solution of having it available via a proprietary port is laughable but understandable from a business perspective....if you're apple. Let's face it, Samsung is not Apple and they won't sell their products just because of the name. This product, aside from the UI, does not differentiate itself in terms of features from it's main competitor.

I suppose the wait is back on or head back to decide on an existing product...

It's either this or the Transformer for me. I need to actually SEE why I should be paying $100 more when I lose features. I thought I'd be able to finally see the bloody thing the week coming up to make a decision, but since I live in Chicago and not NY, I'll be waiting an ADDITIONAL week. Looks like my Father's Day present is going to have to wait until after Father's Day (I'll be out of town that weekend) ...

In order to take market share away from the iPad, Android tablets are going to have to offer more features and cost less. SD card functionality should be included in every Android tablet. Obviously not everyone needs it, but the device needs it to win people over that are on the fence. Expandable storage space, like Flash support, needs to be exploited. This is a war, and Android isn't going to win it by not using its best weapons.

Totally agree. I've kinda thought this all along - the only way to take market share from apple is to BEAT the iPad, not match it. If they had released the WiFi Xoom when they originally released the 3G Xoom and made it $500 for 32GB, it would have sold way more IMO. Instead they started with the 3G version for like $800.

Look at how well the Transformer is doing!

Having a SDcard slot is important for those that really use one.
I was looking into the Samsung, until I found out it did not have an SDcard slot on the device itself.

I recently purchased the Acer A500 Tab. It has SDcard, USB, & Micro-USB.
I'm really liking the SDcard slot. Not just for extra memory, but for use with my digital camera.
My digital camera takes superior pictures in comparison to my Android phone & any tablet.
I use a SDcard that has a Micro-SDcard built in for my camera.
I can take my digital camera with me on a family trip, shoot as many pics as I want, take out the card and pop it into my Tablet. I can then upload the photos I've taken to DropBox or Email them to family & friends.
Copying the files from the SDcard to the tablet's internal memory gives an error. Also trying to Email the pics through the GMail app will not attach them. I do have success emailing them through the Email app that comes with Honey Comb, as well as uploading them to DropBox, Picasa, etc.

Just realized I can do the same with my Android phone. I can take the micro SD card from the adapter inisde my camera, insert it into my phone, then copy them to my phone's internal memory or send them off for sharing. The Samsung is starting to be something I should definitely take a look at. Everyone is saying how light weight it is. My Acer feels like a brick.

Not to mention there will be a USB/SD adapter for the 10.1, so you will be able to do the same thing with that if you don't mind carrying an extra piece (which seems to be an issue for some)

Not for nothing folks, but for all of you who say you have been waiting excitedly for months and are shocked that it didn't have sd, come on really? I've been waiting for months excitedly and in doing five minutes of research on it when the first Limited Edition version surfaced it was PUBLICLY KNOWN that this tab would ship with no sd or hdmi. So, while it may suck for some, it is not like Samsung just pulled the wool over our eyes. If you need sd, I'm sure the price of the Xoom will drop now and there is always the Thrive and Transformer out there too. Sorry, just my opinion...

If they would have paid close attention to the Samsung event they clearly showed the adapters while going over the accessories.

Please enlighten us as to where we can get details on said SD adapter for the 10.1 tablet? If my memory serves correct, they said it was for the 8.9 tablet only.

The SD and USB adapters are both available on the Samsung website... And both are compatible with the 10.1
