It's like Google is trying to fail

I had to really think hard when my Pixel 2 reached its 2yr payoff. I saw the Pixel 4 was coming out and then saw no fingerprint scanner. Not just no, but emphatically NO. So I rolled back to the 3XL JUST to get that blessed FP scanner. I also upgraded RAM to 128gb and now I have a solid phone with an awesome camera. Love having the wireless charge capability as well. Say what you want-- staying with Pixel for now. The updates are regular as rain too.

With no figure print scanner no one will ever chop my finger off again to get into my phone!

Just received my Pixel 4 XL yesterday. Was using a Moto G7. My wife has the Pixel 3 and loves her phone. So far I really think that this smartphone checks all the boxes for me. I rarely go by what reviews say. I would rather check out a device myself. And I'm glad I did in this case. Is it worth $1000 that I paid? Maybe, maybe not. But I am happy with it. And I'm really excited about the camera which is one of the main reasons I got it. Have a baby coming in August and would like to be able to take some good pictures. The Moto G7 struggled with photography.

One more.

Pixel fan: amazing camera. Would be great if you up your game when it comes to video.

Google: thank you and we know that our competitors all moved to 4K at 60fps some time ago BUT we are doing shiiiiittt to improve that on pixel 4. we woul love to charge you flagship prices but only give you 4k at 30fps.

Facepalm

Amazing camera for snapshots. It would be wonderful if Google considered amateur photographers. Two years ago I quit carrying a camera and lenses and started using my Pixel2 and then Pixel3. To be honest, it got boring. When I saw the reviews on the Pixel 4 I bought a Huawei P30 pro and have been having a ball with wide angle, decent telephoto, simulated long exposures for moving water, and excellent low-light and night shots. I rarely ever use "Night Mode".

The P30 also has incredible battery life. The phone is a bit heavier but even though I'm 78 I can handle it.

I don't like the fingerprint scanner under the screen and much prefer it on the back. The Pixel 3 scanner was perfect. No fingerprint scanner sucks.

Based on the earnings call, it doesn't sound like the Pixel 4 models sold well.

Meanwhile, Apple is having a runaway hit with their iPhone 11 models. And Samsung is stepping up their game in nearly every way. The S20 is shaping up to be beastly with its upgrades, One UI with Android 10 seems universally liked, and they're actually keeping up and sometimes beating out Pixel devices on monthly security updates.

Google desperately needs to step up this year with the Pixel 5. But we said that about previous years, too...
