Its May 2 still no fascinate froyo

Will do. Thank you!

I'll help you through the process if you still have questions, I'll be on for a bit :) It can be a bit complicating at first, but I assure you once you learn it and actually get it done, you'll be amazed how easy it really is! With that said, just reply with any questions or problems you run into and I'm here to help you through it :)

You need to download and install the samsung drivers, so your computer can recognize your phone when it's connected via usb. HERE Follow that link to download and install the drivers. When in Odin the box toward the top left should turn yellow and say "COM #" When that appears that means it has recognized your phone.

Seems to be working now! Yippee!!

Please look at the screenshot. Can I disconnect now and put the battery back in? The phone hasn't powered down...

Yes, you should be able to disconnect it safely, the reason it didn't power down is because you had auto reboot unchecked. Go ahead and disconnect and reinsert battery and then boot it up.. will take longer than normal so don't be scared when your phone doesn't boot up to your home screen as fast as you're used to. Once it is booted up tho, try to do an OTA through settings>about phone>system updates>check now. If that doesn't work I'll help you through the process of doing it via the update.zip method.

Thanks - I think I'll go ahead and try the update.zip that is on my SD card already. I'm sure it;s the right one, and it will be quicker than OTA, no?

What update.zip do you have on your sd card? Since you will be on DL09 now, you will first need to get to EA28 (it was a very small maintance update released after DL09) But it will be required before being able to get to Froyo 2.2 ED01... So let me know which update.zip you have right now.

Bad news. update.zip from SD card didn't work. Trying OTA now...

I'm guessing you were trying to go straight to ED01? First, did your phone boot up fine? Second, download the EA28 update.zip and place it on the root of your sdcard (like you did with the one you currently have) For safeties sake, remove the current update.zip you have on your sdcard so you don't get them confused when you flash them in recovery. We'll take it step by step :)

Oh right, I had EA28 before, so I had downloaded the update.zip for EA28.

I just did OTA update and it must have given me the maintenance update, because it was quick. I then re-tried the update.zip from my sd card and - I'm waiting for...looking good....almost done...done ...rebooting...waiting...checking about phone

SUCCESS!!!!! firmware 2.2.1 - Froyo

Thanks so much guys!!

I'll do my wife's phone tomorrow, and it will be SO much easier the second time.

Next I may just root for the first time!!:D

Thank you all!!!! I have been following this forum since I got my Fascinate, and have learned more here than any other forum. I am going to root today <fingers crossed>.
You guys have posted thorough tutorials already, so I should be good to go, but I'll ask if I need to.

I was a bit wary of bricking my phone, so I asked a LOT of newbie type questions. A special thanks to all of you for being so understanding and patient.

Hey, that's quite alright my friend! We all started out that way at some point, I know I did! lol. Pretty much any kind of mess up is fixable with this phone it's pretty hard to actually completely brick your phone, takes a VERY special circumstance for it to happen. Just make sure whenever flashing something via Odin to keep your phone on a stable surface and the USB cable secure as to not fall out from the phone. If that's taken care of, it's pretty much fail safe!

I took my fascinate to the verizon store. the tech told me i had an app that was blocking the update from being downloaded. They did a factory reset and the phone immediately started to download froyo. so now I have it. mystery solved.

I'm on DH12 and appear to that have one of those phones that cannot get OTA updates. The phone works well otherwise so I'd rather not go to VZW and get a refurb. Can I use this update.zip file method to go from DH12 to stock ED01.

Thanks in advance.
I have the same problem like patsfan:
DH12 on 2.1
No service for this phone (cheap "bad esn" off ebay)
trying to get Skype over Wifi with 2.2

For what it's worth, I ODIN'd to dl09, and then did the update.zip method up to ed01. It worked perfectly. The phone much faster now.

The only problem I've found so far is that when I hold down the home button to get the task manager, only six programs appear instead of eight. I also don't have the task manager widget like I used to in Eclair.

Thanks everyone for their help. I kept getting the server not available message. Those zip files worked like a charm Thanks again
