The Note 3 is finally upon us and it is without a doubt, based on specs alone, the best phone on the market. But the question remains does it have a removable back or expandable storage like previous iterations? Or has Samsung moved to an internal thing too?

The S4 and Note 2 have removable batteries and expandable storage so one would assume the Note 3 does as well.

What I'm curious about is they've kept the battery size of 3200mah from the Note 2 but upgraded to a 1080p display. Does that mean the battery life is going to decrease with the Note 3 compared to the Note 2 or has Samsung made the proper optimizations to keep it the same?

Specs are awesome, but I can't get past how it looks. Not liking that back cover at all with the faux stitching! Yuck! Not to mention the flat ribbed edges, I'm sure they're easier to grip, but just ugly IMO. Ditto on the flat end of the S-Pen and the back camera hump. I'm very disappointed. :(

It has an amoled screen, and has 3200 battery so I would say safely it will make a day of usage. But more than one might be up to the user.

You do realize that there will be aftermarket back covers, most likely at launch, correct?

If it had the same design language as the Gs4 people would've complained about that. So they changed it. For the better is still in question. I personally like it though it looks classy.

So...spend $10 and get one of the plethora of different back covers that will undoubtedly be available for it like they have been for the Note, S3, Note 2, and S4. It's Samsung...you will not want for choices.

I think the new processors help with the battery life so it should be better than the note 2.

That was an initial concern, that it'd look too similar to the S4. I just didn't expect to see it look so ugly IMO. I'm just not feeling it. Sure I could put a different back on it (or a case, hate them though prefer naked), but that's not going to change how I feel about its overall design/look, in particular that re-designed S-Pen and the camera hump. I'll still go check it out in person, but barring something drastic changing my mind, I think I'll be sticking with my Note 2. :)

I mean if you have a note 2 there is no reason to get this unless you really want the specs. But you can wait until the Note 4 comes along.

I agree.

Although I think it's time Samsung needs to update their touch wiz UI, the icons, green quick task buttons, ... Or have an option for the user to customize the UI.

Sounds good.

Touchwiz is getting a bit long in the tooth looks wise, I agree, but I didn't expect the Note 3 to be the device to show us a whole new look, if anything, the GS5 will be that device.

I like the back, it's different, it seems more grippy, that's all I need to most likely carry this phone without a case.

As far as Note 2 users not having to upgrade, I beg to differ. The screen alone is enough to want me to make the jump to the Note 2. Combined my being eligible for a new phone since April and with my Note 2 probably having around 200 to 250 dollars trade in value at Best Buy, the Note 3 will cost me next to nothing. Also, when looking at the slides of all the LTE bands the Note 3 supports, one of them was 800 Mhz which is what Sprint is now allowed to use after shutting down the old Nextel IDEN network. Once they upgrade the towers, the Note 3 should give me better reception indoors, and you can never have a strong enough signal. I am lucky enough to live in a Sprint LTE area, so I will definitely benefit from it.

You gotta believe that 3gb of ram is for touchhog. Even when touchwiz 4 was released on the s3 it took up about 700mb.

I think it's gonna be a nice device. However, just to be honest, I don't need it. My trio does what I want. I'm thinking the full price on this monolith of awesomeness will be around $800US so that's $550 I'd have to come outta pocket if my S4 fetched what I think it might. Who knows.

The device really does have some impressive specifications. Is it something I will consider? Not so much. You can give them credit for having the Note 3 on display running the latest available version of Android, 4.3 and not something prior.

If it was running 4.1 or 4.2 what do we lose because its not running 4.3?

Retail better not be that much. It was bad enough the Note 2 went for $700 last year!

I am quite happy with my Note 2. My plan is to look and see how quickly Samsung moves to bring 4.3, the S4 functions and these new S-Pen functions as an upgrade to my current phone. If they drag like Motorola did on my Photon, then I might trade in my Note 2 and use the cash to pay for the Note 3.

Anybody see whether this phone has IR enabled so we can control our TVs, etc.?

From what I have read, it doesn't say that it has an IR blaster.

I can imagine it would. Seem silly not to.
