ItsOn Battery drain with new Sprint 4.4.4 update

Interesting....

I recently purchased a M8 HK edition...

ItsOn does not appear on my phone anywhere.... running 4.4.4

Wonder why some have it and some don't

Keep an eye on it. It shows up on mine from time to time. I tend to check for it throughout the day.

It showed up on mine after the update and I saw it using some battery. Now it's gone. I see no sign of it anywhere, including battery.......

Mine either hogs the battery at over 50% or shows at 0.1%. I'm trying to figure out the conditions that enables it to click on and stay on, taking up all the battery.

Anyone have any luck figuring out the culprit? Or are we at the mercy of Sprint to release an update? I did a custom reference point on GSAM and in the past 10 mins, it's accounted for 60.2% use of my battery (2m42sec of CPU usage). Since I unplugged about an hour and a half ago, 49.3% use of my battery (38m43sec of CPU usage).

A restart has fixed it since I started noticing this last week...but it comes back after a few days.

I've posted this issue in the Sprint Community forum and it appears they are looking into a fix and releasing an update, unless it's just a generic reponse from the SprintCare team...

I've also sent out a tweet to @moversi and he forwarded it onto @VenkataMovva, whom I just sent a screenshot to on Twitter. Hopefully a fix is being researched.

I was on the road yesterday and inside a large hotel/convention center with poor service and spotty wifi, and It'sOn came back and seemed to eat a lot of my battery too...

There's a lot of users on Twitter also documenting this problem to @Sprint, @SprintCare and @HTC. One response from a SprintCare rep suggested resetting by dialing ##72786#>Menu>Reset. I did this last night, so we'll see if ItsOn starts draining my battery today. So far so good, 1 hour off the charger and it's not showing up. However, I had initially restarted my phone when this happened over the past week and ItsOn wasn't draining my battery for a day or so...then it would come back on. So I'm gonna wait a few days.

According to SprintCare on their community forums, their engineering department is looking into a fix (hopefully). If you can, I'd suggest reporting that you're experiencing the same issue on the link I posted above...or tweet them.

Wow. Just checked in since my original post and apparently this is an issue. I just happened to notice a severe battery drain today and sure enough ItsOn was 28% in the past day. Thanks everyone for the input! Lets hope they fix this.

My phone just had a box appear in the middle of my screen and said the device must restart in order to complete activation. I tapped later and couldn't find anything running. I tapped recent apps and there it is ItsOn, doesn't show up anywhere else on my phone. What is this app? Looking at ItsOn's website it appears only for prepaid service, which I do not have.

Just had the exact same thing happen, got the notification box, hit later, and phone restarted anyway. Noticed the icon for the app changed after this. Also this caused another problem which I'm sure you all might have run into, when the phone restarted, Sprintid changed my home screens and downloaded the bloatware app packs again

Followed your link and added my name to the list of those experiencing the problem along with a screenshot.

My phone also got a reboot this afternoon. I didn't realize it at first, but when I pulled my phone out of my pocket, it was already rebooting. My coworker (also on Sprint and with an M8) also said he got a reboot and if you look at the thread from the link above on the Sprint Community forums, someone else posted they experienced a reboot.

However, since the reboot, ItsOn has used 3.3% of the battery and 5m25s of CPU over the past 7h45m. So that's better...for now...

An update...I've been Direct Messaging on Twitter for the past few days with someone from HTC and he sent me a message this morning saying that It'sOn has resolved the issue and that the phone "will automatically download a service apk" sometime today and that it will reboot. He said to then monitor over the weekend and let him know if there are anymore issues.

I did get a reboot yesterday afternoon (I'm in the Pacific time zone), so I wonder if this was the reboot he was talking about. So far today, ItsOn has used 2.8% of battery and 1m4s of CPU. I've been unplugged for 2h40m. So the service is still there, but ItsOn is using less of the battery. Although overall battery drain still seems to be a bit higher than before the 4.4.4 update (down to 86%, when prior to the update, I'd normally still be in the low 90s at this time in the morning).

Anyone else who received the reboot yesterday/today also seeing less usage by ItsOn and/or better battery life?

I got a reboot yesterday and a service pack upgrade about 10 minutes ago. Funny thing is I never had the it'sOn app on my device. I'll be curious to see how this effects battery life.

No reboot for me and ItsOn showed up on my battery usage today. It hasn't been showing up for the last few days. It just comes and goes.

So after my restart yesterday I have not seen IsOn pop up in my battery usage. I also got the HTC Service Pack update a few hours ago. I downloaded and installed it but have not been prompted to reboot nor have I noticed any reboots I did not initiate. Just giving an update on my particular situation. Maybe the service pack update fixed it??

I just an email response from Jason at HTC and he confirmed a solution:
Mike, thank you for your feedback. This issue had been resolved by Its On. They have setup the fingerprint so that production devices can be fully updated. Its On will automatically retry and download the service APK which will resolve the issue.

So what does that mean to us? Do we need to go find the update? Are they going to send it to our phones?

I got the same type of response after direct messaging with someone at HTC on Twitter (@moversi referred me to him). I was told that the apk will automatically download to my phone and will reboot. I'm assuming this happened to my phone yesterday afternoon (even though the person at HTC said it would happen today). So far today, the usage by ItsOn is much, much less and my battery life is how it used to be. The guy at HTC said to monitor over the weekend and to message him back if there continue to be issues.
