My first card, don't remember the brand but after a while it started screwing with my videos when I'd try to play them, or transfer them to my PC. So I bought a PNY class 10 maybe 3 months ago and a week ago, it unmounted by itself and I can't get it to re-mount. I was wary about saving photos and videos to my card after I bought it because of what happened the first time. Thank God I didn't because I lost all of them the first time around. Are there known issues with SD cards and the S4? Or what brand is best to use? Sandisk?

The down side is Android doesn't support SD cards. So Samsung forces SD card use on the OS. Lately there have been more and more errors arising concerning SD cards.
You could possibly try to either reformat to NTFS, or you can try a lower class card.

Be advised: As the OS continues, the SD card will become more and more obscured.

If it's not supported, why do they have that option?

Why is MicroSD storage disappearing from Android? Is it because Google is pushing "cloud storage"? If I had known that, I would have looked harder at a Windows 8 phone. I like having some kind of removable physical storage! I just ordered a 64 gig MicroSD from Newegg for my S4....... Hoping it works fine to hold my pictures and music!

The lack of SD cards increases stability in ROMs.

This is a known issue to Samsung. I had this same problem and lost everything a few times having to reinstall from my pc. I had to send the device to them for repair. Upon getting it back they informed me that they replaced the entire sd housing on the device. After the repair there have been no issues.

You might want to check out a Samsung sd card. I have read ( not sure where) that they have less or no problems for whatever reason. I have been using a Samsung 16gb class 10 and no problems so far.

Did you have trouble before with non-Samsung SD cards?

I got a Lexar Class 10 32gb microSD card and it was mounting and dismounting itself. Eventually, the card was not readable by the phone but I just left it in the phone anyways. After a while, for some strange reason, the card was readable again until this past weekend when I got a message saying that the card needs to be formatted. Lots of random issues.

I didn't even try any others. Before getting my S4 I was researching things, reading the forums etc. and saw that their was lots of issues with memory cards. A couple of people suggested use Samsung which are more money so I did

Thank you for all your input, guys! I put a fresh 32G SanDisk in and it's working (as of right now). Fingers crossed!

Yes, I did. I had a SanDisk card and it failed (actually two of them). I bought a Samsung card and got a warranty on it just to be safe. So far so good!
