I've got a Xoom 1st edition with a dim screen, how can I fix it?

got a xoom 1st edition. but dim screen

if i tilt it i can just about make out the M logo and in the top left protocol something. but it wont boot. i tried the soft boot holding the vol and start but nothing. now i got it hooked up to my laptop installed the driver manger but i cant get the laptop to see the moto. what i have read is that you can use your laptop to navigate the xoom. can anyone help me please.
