I've got this Hero sitting around, now what?

I just got an Evo, and have this Evo sitting around that I fixed with a new battery. It was sad that the stupid technicians couldn't figure out a swelling battery is what was wrong with the phone (sad that it took me that long too).

Anyway, I've got this HTC hero. What can I do with it if I don't have service on it. (I've got the MSL at least). This would be my first root
Is there a root for a phone without a cell account?

Would love to be able to get pandora, etc on it and not have to pay for it.


Also, any tips for making it a user in other countries. I know its all CDMA, but maybe internet is broadcasted on something else? Sorry, total noob.

The Hero can still be used on WiFi and access the market, apps, etc. as long as you are logged into it with your Gmail account. There is a sticky at the top of this forum with instructions to root -- follow the directions to root and install a recovery. It will be like using an iPod Touch.

As for as things being free, no. Root will not grant you free access to services provided by paid apps or accounts. Root just gives you access to the phones system to flash custom ROMs, install custom kernals, etc.
