I just realised that my case arrived on Monday tooThings are falling into place
Amazon.com: HTC 10 Case, Spigen® [Ultra Hybrid] AIR CUSHION [Crystal Clear] Clear back panel + TPU bumper for HTC 10 (2016) - (H09CS20277): Cell Phones & Accessories
Was about to pull the trigger on this one until I noticed those weird extra cutouts in the top part next to the audio output. No idea why they're there.

I normally don't use a case, but there was a special on and I think the case cost around $3 so figured it was worth it.
That's where the antennae are. The case material may interfere with the phone's radios, therefore the cutouts.

Ah, hadn't considered that.
Is that possible though? Even if the radios are there, aren't they omni-directional? Like, if i'm using the phone with the top portion facing away from a tower, will I actually get worse signal?
They are omnidirectional, but the metal case acts as a Faraday cage. You'll note that to either side of the headphone jack are "windows" of plastic. These are radio wave-permeable to let the radios work. The cutouts on the case are there to ensure as little attenuation of the signals as possible.
Ah, didn't know about the plastic up top (haven't handled one yet), so that makes sense.
And guess I know which case i'm getting then.
Thanks!
Dang it! Just noticed the "shell" case from Spigen doesn't have the cutouts:

Why are they doing this to me!!
