I've played with the HTC EVO 4G LTE ... Ask me anything!

As new phones come out, old ones support lessens. Its just how it goes. No phone will have the same support from anyone 1 1/2 years into its life as it had at 4 months

Always defending Sprint Why?
This guy has a great point about a Higher end device.

sent from a Android device :)
I'm always on!

Care to explain how my response was defending Sprint? Lol. Sprint codes the Android updates now?

I'm not defending anyone. Just pointing out reality. At the speed phone hardware is advancing, no, you won't see software updates 2 years in. The better question is, why do you need to? Does a new version of Android make your phone nit work as advertised? So far it seems that high end Android phones get one major OS update. I suspect it will stay that way, and I for one have no issue with that

My question, and this might be hard to answer, is do you think this phone will be able to run the next version of Android? I'm coming from a EVO 3D, which I love, but I'm disappointed with the lack of support from HTC and Sprint. And this phone has to last me at a minimum twenty months.
Also, especially interested in call quality and signal strength, since the Sprint service is not good in my area.
Without a doubt, yes. I don't see how the 3D has had "lack of support" if they're gonna be giving it ICS...

I think he means like how the original Evo pretty much lost support from HTC (new builds and such (other than the whole carrier IQ update)). It has even lost most support from the rooted dev community. Will it be big enough to keep support through a full 2 year contract term?

Lost support? It received 2 Android version updates beyond the launch version - that sort of thing is unheard of nowadays.

Hello,

my question is how was the speaker (I'm assuming that it is going to be the same as one x) quality and sound? (i know it is hard to tell at a event like that, but hoping that you could maybe hear it over the crowd)

Thanks, Phil

LOL @ thinking 2 year old phones should still be kept up to date with software. That is the one thing you can count on with Android...being left in the dark as to when you're phone will receive the newest version. Apple releases a new software...the iPhones get some sort of version of it. You really dont have much to worry about for the two years of your contract. Anyone who has used Android for a period of time should just be used to this now. We would all love to see our phones remain current...but unfortunately that isnt how Android works on all devices.

Sometimes newer versions of software cannot run on older versions of hardware. I wouldn't want my 4G LTE software to be optimized for an OG EVO. I personally, would rather them concentrate on the newer devices and progress.

The difference with Apple is they have one phone they are manufacturing. Yes it is on its fourth version but HTC, Samsung, Motorola and the rest of the Android phone manufacturers have as many as 8 different phones for a number of different cell providers that usually require their own bloatware added to their version of the phone so it is not as easy a task as it is for Apple to roll out updates.

Yes, that's what I mean.

When HTC has that we are getting ICS, I have not seen anything from Sprint. Also, we've never received support for the Sense crashing issue from HTC or Sprint. Yes, you can install a different launcher to fix it, but that's not the point. And a major lack of 3D support is disappointing. Now, I didn't get it for 3D, but the promised apps and movies never happened.
I know it's not a simple question, nor is it one may not have an answer. Just wanted to pick Phil's brain a bit.

Does sense 4.0 support landscape mode on the home screen?

Going from what I've seen in various videos on the One X and the new EVO, the answer is "sometimes".

It appears to only work when you connect to the wireless media hub. Since they can make it work there I don't know why they don't allow the choice anywhere else.

Re:Ask me anything! Shutter Lag

A recent box opening of the Sprint Galaxy Nexus you mentioned "no shutter lag".

I don't recall any mention in the review of the One X or the Evo 4G LTE if there was a noticeable if any shutter lag.

Your observations?

Thanks!

Phil,

I'm hoping you can help. This is app-specific, but I'm not having any luck getting this question answered elsewhere:

In phones with Android 4.0, many (outdated?) apps have the Menu button appear as an on-screen button when the phone itself lacks a Menu button (like the E4GLTE does).

Does anyone know if Slingplayer has been updated to be compatible with 4.0, so that it doesn't force this on-screen Menu button?

I'd hate to have some of my E4GLTE screen "eaten up" by a stupid menu button.

Thanks for any insight!

But can it still stay like that while plugged in??

I will have an add-on device soon that will make it sturdy in either horizontal position, and hopefully protect that camera lens, as I am thinking of that phone also.

It doesn't look to sturdy in the upside down position with the kickstand that way.

It is going to lay in all 3 positions with the kickstands.including vertical

Does anyone know if you can disable the Sense over lay? I've heard the Galaxy SIII had that ability on TW?
