January 2018 Security Patch Update

Maybe a good thing I haven't got it yet then.

I had the same problem, even after I turned, automatic system updates back on. And manually checked for updates several times. I think the manually update function is bugged, or broken. Then I came across these instruction, and my phone updated with no issues.

If you want the update now go to :

1. Settings

2. Apps & Notifications

3. Click see all apps

4. Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner and press show system apps.

5. Scroll down and click on "Google Service Framework"

6. Click on storage.

7. Clear data.

8. Click back and force stop "Google Service Framework".

9. Restart Phone

10. Check for update once or twice and should be there

Unless you feel like resetting your phone, I would not recommend the Goggle Play Services thing. It breaks everything Google related. And it's not even guaranteed that it gets you the update (it did not the one time I regretfully tried it).

Anyways, Google store bought 2 XL on t-mobile here, still on same security patch as my Samsung S8+.

If not for the camera on this thing, I would switch back to the S8+ in a heartbeat. No other reason to have this, now that Google has proven to be as casual with updates as all other phone manufacturers.

I have sideloaded it. There is an O2/UK specific ota so that was all good. Rebooted 3 times so hopefully no lag issues. All seems well so far.

That is the worst thing you can do.

Please no one try this!!!!!!!

I'm on January so I don't see Google being casual with updates. I've gotten one every month.

Well I didn't have any issues, maybe you should side load it then. Even side loading has some risks, some people complaining phone runs slow, and freezes after side loading. Anything you do to your phone, has some risks.

Casual Updates, really? Google pixel is always up to date, and gets the latest security patch first. Samsung lags, when it comes to updates, especially when the device gets past the one year mark. Google already said there going to support the google Pixel 2/2XL for three years. The issue is, the devices are not seeing the update, and not getting applied to some devices.

I wonder if they stopped the rollout to include a fix for Spectre and Meltdown? The Essential Phone is already getting a fix out.

Still haven't received this update. Not really into sideloading just a security patch. Any other way to push it through?
My Essential got it on the 5th!
(definitely not that google services framework option! Don't know why that is even still a thing)

When you wipe Google Framework you may have issues you are not aware. One major one is Google may not recognize your phone in my devices. At a minimum that means find my devices won't work and Google won't recognize your phone for Betas.
That may not be important to you but I'm sure it is to others. They're are other issues as well and the only resolution is to reset your phone.

Been running side loaded update for a fee hours. Zero lag. Thanks for the video tutorial. Followed it step by step and it was easy in the end. Would sideload again if updates keep being slow to appear on my device.

Hahahaha......... I've been down this road multiple times........ Sell the iPhone and do not look back.

I'm on T-Mobile in NYC and haven't received the updates yet........ sigh

Do you not get the OTA if you're in the beta program? I'd rather not have the phone fully reset unenrolling but I don't want to miss security patches either, so is it the only way?
