So JCase asked if anyone would be a guinea pig to flash his signed S-off in Hboot. I volunteered but i guess some other fellow flashed it with the risk of bricking and no unbrick method. Well looks like there's good news!

So does this mean we officially have S-Off and can flash for the masses?

Ok, I remember who Jcase is now. I talked with a him a few time on RootzWiki. hahaha... I knew the name was familiar just couldnt remmeber who he was.

Yea i know it means nothing right now, but it's nice to see progress. If im not mistaken, we will need S-Off for some ICS Roms right?

Jcase has been around for ages on the android platform. He has a good reputation.

Sent from my rezound.

No, s-off will avoide the need to do that.

I am starting to doubt the legitimacy of this however. Why not release? Why hold it back?

Just sayin!

Possibly waiting until the outcome can be replicated with sufficient consistency? Would be bad to release it only to find out that 50% of attempts work and other 50% brick, for example.

newb question but what is the difference between bootloader unlock + permroot (what we have now) and having s-off?

Basically, S-Off would allow us to tinker with the radios. Root & Unlocked Bootloader allows flashing of recoveries, custom ROMs, and de-bloating.

Tinkering with the radios, what would that be able to give us? Better reception, better call quality, fewer dropped calls? Not sure how that would work.

It would allow you more options. For example, on the Thunderbolt, after MR1 OTA was released, many people experienced a lot of data drops. With S-off, they could revert to a pre-MR1 radio, or a GB radio. With S-off, you can also mix and match LTE and CDMA radios. The radio you use would still have to be compatible with the android version you are running though.

Similarly, on the Rezound, after an update, they may update the radio, and if the new radio is not as good as the old radio, then you can flash the old radio or mix and match LTE and CDMA radios.

Title is deceiving, no one "got s-off" the s-off in the picture was meaningless, picture was showing the engineering bootloader.
