Jellybean expectations?

I think this are my top 5 for JellyBean...

- Better security (ie less permissions given to apps)

- Higher resolution Contact photos

- Chrome as the default browser

- Battery percentage on top bar

- General tweaks and performance improvements.

I don't really know what to expect ... but what I would like is mainly improving existing functionnalities.
For the Galaxy Nexus specifically, it definitely needs a fixed BT Stack and also a fix for the low volume of the notifications.
For android, I would like more voice commands. Don't know how it works in the us, but here in france, If I speak a contact name, it launches a google search on that name, even if it's correctly recognized : silly.
And more generally, Android needs to gain more users. I think google should continue its efforts on the play store to promote it. ICS is a great OS, but it needs more hits on its app store. The solution would be to integrate paypal, to share more $$ with devs, offering more "special offers"....
Finally, Google should defintely show the average user that ICS is really great and isn't "lower" than iOS (My previous phone was an iPhone 4). They should use massive advertising on traditionnal medias (TV, magazine, ...)

I would be happy if all that jelly bean did was get rid of all the left over Gingerbread fragments. The only reason I'm running a custom ROM right now is so I can use a FULL ICS theme that removes all that crap.

I like the quick controls in the native browser. If they integrate Chrome into the phone, I hope that is something that gets thrown in.

Gtalk is a great app, I just wish they would integrate it into the contacts. Where you only need the other persons phone number to video chat ( assuming they're using android and have a front facing camera). Most of my friends/family that have Android aren't even aware what gtalk is, sadly. I'm no apple fan boy, but I do like how they make video chat so accessible (except they're wifi only. Haha )

GTalk has lots of potential from the beginning, but the crowd seem not catching on.
Like chat history within gmail was already a very good feature that keeps everything online ("omg cloud!")
One thing is that the official windows client looks ugly, and no smileys.
Line has picked up user base in Asia I think for its little icons, and I know people even switched from Whatsapp to Line for that.
Even though GTalk was available very early in Android, but if Google could really make an effort to get people to use it, it would immensely help the brand recognition.

On the other hand, G+ (mobile) has this Messenger/Huddle. I know they are probably built by different teams... but could we have the two integrated together?
Re-brand the GTalk into Google Messenger, make use of the desktop client, make it look really good and learn what are the features people looking for in other messaging services, start a group messege / video chat / hangout on the desktop client, etc.

I would love to see Gtalk integrated with Google plus.

Go after the desktop messaging people still using Win Live Messenger (before Microsoft officially release Win8/WP8 and further WinLive integration),
Go after the mobile messaging people using Whatsapp/Line (even BBM)
Go after the video/audio calling people on Skype/Facetime/Fring/Viber,
and go after the social crowd from Facebook (who is also moving into the mobile world)

Inevitably, the carriers would not be happy, because they are still trying to capitalize on the old SMS technologies. But it must be done in order for Android to survive the next round of mobile OS war

and THAT would be a great feature for the Jelly Bean.

(Sure people will still cry Facetime/iMessage!!, but we all know they are just the integration of existing services)

honestly i have no expectations because ICS is pretty dang good on it's own, so i'm approaching it with the any improvement is just icing on the cake. (no pun)

what i would like to see are SOLID release dates instead of google's patented "soon" (the worst answer in the tech business)

Bring back group messaging in stock SMS app.

Improvements to the stock voice dialer or ability to use Google voice search over bt. Majel would be cool if it worked over Bluetooth.

API fixes to stock android apps ( email) so they don't "wakelock" drain the battery, as reported by Purdue university.

Ability to control startup apps at boot without root permissions in settings.

Simplistic profile management, such as in CM9, as well as simple automation functions in settings.

Reverse the superuser functions i.e., ability to operate as superuser right out of the box, with a password prompt each time superuser permissions are requested by apps. Something similar to how windows allows admin privileges. A stretch, but at least for pure AOSP devices from the play store could have such.

My two cents

Optimize the code and reduce memory usage. Every new version of Windows, Windows, Windows Phone and iOS uses less resources than before. Every version of Android uses more. ICS in particular is a memory hog.

Please allow group messaging in the stock SMS App

Stronger GTalk. Allow file sharing etc

Better Google Talk integration, improved voice actions, Google Wallet 2.0 update, Improvements of Android Beam (Transfer Pics and Videos like S Beam), Chrome the Official Browser, Drive create a folder in Gallery for pics and videos and it automatically syncs and saves, Tasks App Integrated, File Manager, Stock EMail app redesigned similar to Gmail, and toggles in status bar.

Hopefully Jellybean roll out is smooth and quick.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. Thank you!

Messenger/Huddle within Google+ has been one of the best group messaging experience I've ever had.

google, could ya just at least allow me to send an email to a "group", fa cryin out loud?!

As dumb as this may seem, the one thing I'd like to see in a future update is the ability to natively assign custom text tones to contacts. For that purpose I'm using Handcent. But it would be nice to be able to do it natively.

Could we finally have a calendar with holiday options please.

The Google I/O keynote has me considering getting the Nexus now instead of the GSIII

No way. I had a nexus great phone but s3 is almost the same thing with better specs. Someone will port jelly bean over.

If specs are all you care about sure. If you prefer being on the leading edge of Android, not so much. At least with Nexus, you can be lazy and still receive timely updates. (At least with the Google versions; wish I could say the same for the other GNs :( )
