Does anyone know or heard any rumors of android jellybean hitting the market anytime this yr? Im do for an upgrade early december and was thinking i would skip ics and go straight to jb if it hits the market by then or early 1st qtr. I would hate to get ics at that point and be stuck with it for 2yrs and miss jb that would suck. By the end of the yr ics will be old news js.

Think the rumors indeed indicate a late this year type release, or announcement at the very least. It seems likely the new Nexus or phones that would be intended to be released with JB preinstalled are also waiting to see when the recently announced cpus can be delivered for mass production.

At the same time; live now for life sucks and tomorrow you may be dead.

If it did come out this year it wouldnt be until the very end of the year and probably wont see it on new phones until next year. Chances are if you buy a nice phone now that has ICS you will get a software update to jellybean.... or someone (android developers) will find a way.

I think Jelly Bean will be release around the same time this year as ICS was announced last year. So probably late October or Early November. With the next round of Nexus devices hitting around late November and early December.

I just talked to some one who is an android app developer and they told me the first device to get jelly bean is going to be a new asus tablet in june / july, likely announced at google IO. he has seen one in person.. which is confirmed by the press release asus recently put out. He also told me it is an incremental update compared to ICS but has a lot of really awesome improvements. He told me the next device to get it is going to be the current Galaxy Nexus..

im dead serious and not kidding.

Care to share this press release? If it's legit we could do with reporting on it...

Whatever the next version is, IO isn't far away. Lets see what we get :)

"Benson Lin, Asus' Corporate Vice President told TechRadar: "Asus is very close to Google, so once they have Android 5.0 I think there will be a high possibility that we will be the first wave to offer the Jelly Bean update."

Sourced from Digitimes...nuff said, thats probably why we didn't write about it yet. They're often full of...

Anyway...Asus is close to Google, the prime was the first ICS tablet. But that doesn't mean everything. Lot of rumors about which is par for the course heading into IO

yeh, i should have figured a tablet would get it first.
Should have said first phone, but it probably will be a nexus device.

my friend doesn't work for digitimes and he told me everything that is consistent with that article before it was published.

He told me he has seen in real life a tablet running jelly bean and that it is an incremental update that is going to a tablet first and then the G nex. It just makes sense that since they are released a branded nexus tablet on asus it would get some OS tweaks. It would also explain the lack of updates to 4.04 if 4.5 is coming soon. As far as the release date, price and unit shipping info that is likely bogus.

Definitely the odds are that Android devices with ICS will be the norm until early to mid next year. Or you will be able to update easily. optilaunch.wordpress.com

I hope Android Jelly Bean is as good as these!

i mean i suppose you are right. but you can bet your arse i am going to come back to this thread when it released and say i told you so. :P

the leak today only said it was going to be the first phone.

My bet is still on the new nexus tablet getting 4.1 first

Since it will still carry the 4 as the first number does that essentially mean its still ics just with a Makeover and some more tweaks? I mean I honestly don't see how ics can get any better.

The reason I invested into the Galaxy S3 was in the assumption I would get some awesome updates for a few years.

You gotta love Quad Core and a GB of Ram on a phone !
