I read in another thread that ATT Jellybean won't be offered over the air, but the poster wasn't clear if was never to come via OTA or just now now.

Is Jellybean fully baked, or still pretty beta on the S3.

If I did use Kies to apply the update, what's the likelihood that it will be awesome!

Basically, do you think I should apply via kies now?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

It hasn't been "beta" for a long time, this is the official release and Samsung was pretty clear, no OTA for AT&T.

Waiting for AT&T OTA update?

Might want to purchase this first:

Many folks, myself included, have found that Kies does not work properly. There are multiple threads about this issue. Some even claim that Kies has bricked their S3. After hours of trying most of the suggestions on this site, I gave up on installing JB with Kies.

I'm not certain that installing JB is a good idea: there are a fair number of posts claiming that JB has caused problems such as decreased battery life and a host of other issues.

Unsure why ATT refuses to make JB available OTA; maybe because ATT doesn't want to have to deal with the issue of bricked phones?

The S3 is by far the best phone I've owned, and ICS works great. The S3 ain't broke, and perhaps it's not a great idea to "fix it" with JB.

It is a HUGE file, which could have something to do with no OTA.

I don't think that is it. Verizon's S3 JB update is OTA. I think AT&T just doesn't want to nurse a bunch of customers through an update that was prompted by AT&T. Running it through Samsung appeases the more technically oriented while keeping everyone else who doesn't really care out of their hair.

how big is the file, and how long since it's been published? If it's been out a month and hasn't been pulled back, then I guess it's pretty stable ?

Does the Jellybean update wipe the phone or will my go launcher, settings, apps, data be there when done?

738 MB, I have found it to be very stable. Google Now is nice.

Btw, when I connected to Kies, I didn't see a link to download the file. Do I download in my browser first? If so, what's the link?

True but other carriers did it OTA. So.. I doubt that's the reason.

I agree with repli. Even though I'm on sprint I've had JB for awhile with no issues.

Now I'm not saying people haven't run into some.. But majority of the minor / major issues I've seen have been solved by a factory reset after updating.. And now they are enjoy JB. :)

Edit - or an SD card reformat due to media server battery drain (if it hits you).

AT&T doesn't seem to do big files like that OTA when they don't have too.

How long has it been out? Long time, started in the UK first, we were last to get it.

When Kies recognizes your phone, it will tell you it is up to date or there is an update available.

I downloaded the official Rom straight from Samsung mobile and flashed it via Odin... No issues and it works great. For some reason I could not get Kies to connect to my phone.
