Has anyone made this transition? I'm thinking of moving from the g3 to the 6p, mainly because the g3 battery life has gotten bad, it's a little laggy, and I'd like an unlocked phone with updates. (On Verizon). I just wonder what I can expect as to the differences between the two phones.

I came from a G2 and it is definitely an adjustment. This is my first pure android phone and it took me a while to figure how much better it is to be able to customize your phone the way YOU WANT. There are certainly a few LG features I miss but the pros far outweigh the cons. Better battery, way better speakers and just faster in every way. Give yourself a couple weeks to adjust and enjoy. The LG camera has a slight edge but unless you're a camera freak you won't notice much difference.

I have an LG G3 and would like to go Nexus 6P soon also. Just not right now.

My LG G3 is kinda laggy

Has anyone made this transition?

I made exactly this transition except my G3 was on AT&T. The Nexus 6P is a much better phone in almost every aspect except maybe the camera. The G3 camera with OIS took amazing pictures. I haven't really used the 6P camera enough to compare but I doubt it's going to be a difference that matters to me.

LG software? I found just about all the LG software to be useless so I'm not missing it at all. The LG stock launcher was pretty terrible with that boxy interface on the main screen. I would always remove all of it in favor of HD Widgets. I never used the little widgets and apps that LG provided.

Speed? Of course any newer "flagship" phone is going to be faster than an old one. The 6P is blazing fast compared to my year old G3. It's all relative though. The G3 was still operating at acceptable speed before I sold it.

Battery? HUGE difference. Combined with doze, you are going to run a lot longer than the G3.

Stock? It's wonderful. None of the AT&T junk on the phone. I know Verizon loads up its phones with a bunch of cr*p too. So nice to have all of it gone.

Fingerprint reader? So cool! And so easy to adapt to because the G3 had its power button on the back and that's where the fingerprint reader is on the 6P. It was totally familiar to me.

I do miss the double-tap to wake on the G3. I don't like that I have to pick up my phone (6P) to unlock it. I was in the habit of double-tap then pattern unlock all when it was sitting on a table. I have also had to adapt to the volume keys in the traditional spot on the side of the phone, not the back. But - I'll get used to it.

The 6P is physically bigger than the G3. The 6P has bezels at the top and bottom to accommodate the speakers. That's something you have to take into account. I had told myself that I would never get a phone bigger than the G3 but here I am. It's taken me a little while to get used to the size of the 6P but it wasn't a huge jump from the G3.

Some people have talked about issues with Verizon's voicemail and the 6P on this forum. I don't know if that's still an issue or if it was cleared up. I use Google Voice so I didn't have to load any AT&T apps onto my phone.

Make the switch. If you are okay with the size, you won't even think about your G3 again.

Oh man do I want a 6P. Just your descriptions of it alone have me wanting it more and more lol

dude summed it up perfectly. I never owned a G3 but my cousin is a sales rep for LG so I've messed around with it quite a bit. I've also used the S4, Nexus 4, iPhone 4s and Note 5. It honestly doesn't matter what phone you have, the 6p is the best phone available right now. If I had to nitpick I'd prefer SD, but I'll never come close to maxing out my 64. I also would've liked if the 5x had been just a smaller 6p, not that I'd have chosen it, but cause so many people would've liked the 5.2" display with everything the 6p has to offer. If you're fortunate enough to be able to get one, I'd definitely recommend it.

It appears that warranty is still good after unlocking and rooting making the only downside losing pay if you want it. Root gives you DT2W and then if you have trusted places/devices set up you can DT, swipe, and you're in the GUI in a few seconds at most times without having to pick up the phone to use the fingerprint scanner, enter a pattern, etc. When out and about the scanner location isn't much of an issue since more often than not you're pulling it from pocket where it comes to hand fine. However you stand on rooting you can still enable trusted places and then hit the power and swipe to get into the GUI and skip the password or pattern. The GPS often wont work indoors and the tower location can be off by a fair bit so I found that I needed to put in my location and about a half dozen placed manually in a circle pattern sprinkled around my house to get consistent operation.

I debated rooting mine, but ultimately chose not to. It used to be mandatory but nowadays not so much. Just my opinion though. The only reason I'd have rooted is for the double tap, it's a great feature that I wish every phone offered.

jumped from the now ancient Galaxy Note II. Was feeling a little weepy, but forgot about it in 24 hours. The 6P is simply awesome!

A colleague at work has a brand new G4 and what I immediately noticed is that the LG interface is 'heavy' compared to 6P. There's just this micro lag noticeable once you use a 6P - It's blazing fast.

The camera, BTW, is excellent. Took a photo in a dark room yesterday night and it captured what I wanted to brilliantly. The level of detail was superb.

Went from the G3 to the 6p and never looked back. The 6p runs a lot smoother and way better battery life but hard to compare because G3 on KK was great on battery life. Then LP came out and was horrible. 6P is on MM so its a difference. Besides the software, I love the 6P. The only thing I did miss was double tap to wake for the first few days but that was it.

Nexus 6P

First few days with my 6P, I kept trying to adjust the volume with a volume control on the back that didn't exist, lol.

Size was an adjustment at first. In hand, I'm over it. In pocket, still pretty noticeable for me.

I had to root & flash my G3 to get past the out-of-the-box lag I had on the stock rom. That was a huge disappointment coming from my buttery smooth Nexus 5. Not an issue at all with my 6P.

I'll agree, the G3 camera was a bright spot, although the 6P isn't bad. The best Nexus camera I've experienced.

Also, I was comfortable rockin' the plastic G3 naked. No so w/the aluminum 6P. I tried to, but I was too anal and wussed out, got a case.

I'm coming from a LG G3.

Nexus 6P takes god pictures. The LG G3 was/is one of the best.

I actually liked the LG interface. Mind you I was coming from Samsung though.
I used Xposed and LG Tweaksbox.

LG G3 is still a decent phone.
My wife still uses one.

Yep, I typically have more than 60% at the end of the day.
Their version of fast charging has the 6P topped off in 30 minutes.

I was able to bump (bootloader unlock, sort of) my LG G3
I ran a slimmed down factory ROM.

Nothing else to say.

You don't need to miss that feature. It's only bootloader unlock and root away.
I did like the keys on the back.

Me too.

I'm on Verizon and if you want VVM, you need to use Google Voice.

Nope. Haven't thought about my LG G3. Need to sell it though....

You're going to be shocked by how little the G3 is worth now (or maybe you don't expect much). My G3 was one year old and I got $185 on eBay for the unlocked phone, charging cradle, high capacity battery with special back and case, 64GB memory card, regular case, carrying pouch and an extra tempered glass screen protector. After eBay takes a cut, I walked away with about $165. Very disappointed. But - then I grabbed my 6P and all was good. :)

So did anyone get the double tap unlock to work ? I guess this would bypass the fingerprint reader right...or is it a double tap to wake up then password ?
"You don't need to miss that feature. It's only bootloader unlock and root away." Which rooter is best for the 6P ? Also, I see the 6p is more than a year old..is there any other in the offing I should wait for ?

I always say that sometimes it's just a matter of getting used to the new phone and it's features/interface. The G3 had that method of unlocking which was nice but after using the 6P for a long time now, I don't really miss it anymore. I want to use the fingerprint reader, I don't want to enter a pin or swipe. That's just me though.

I don't think the 6P is more than a year old. I think it was released in late September so it's 10 months old. The new Nexus phones are coming out near the end of this year. Last I heard it was November. The 6P will obviously drop in price when those come out or maybe even sooner as Google moves to sell off its remaining inventory. It's impossible for the average person to predict future sales.
