Jump on the Z Fold 3 or wait for the S22U with Spen silo?

Got the Tab S7 Plus and my Unicorn Beetle for it too! I must say this thing is AMAZING! Very quick for being the 6GB ram model and amazing display too. basically like having a supersized Note.

I'll probably trade my Tab S3 in with my Watch towards a Watch 4 Classic 46mm. before Christmas. Or save it and put it towards the S22U.

I'll consider the Z Fold 4 next year if it has dust resistance and a bigger front screen. I'm so use to the Note devices a small front screen won't cut it.

So the main question is would most be disappointed or happy switching from the S21U to the Fold?

I switched from the S20 Ultra, which is essentially the same phone as the 21U, and I can say I'm happy with the Fold.

It wasn't my 1st choice, because my original plan as I switched from Verizon to ATT was saving money, and I was actually just going to select the S21U with 512GB, but they couldn't get one and didn't know when they would get them back in stock, so I was kinda forced into getting the Fold.

Once you get a good case (I'm using Spigen Slim Armor Pro) and get your outer and inner displays set up how you like them, you will likely find the phone quite practical. Popping open that huge internal display will definitely turn heads too.

I'm the type who sits around watching YouTube and browsing a handful of websites every evening before bed. Using the big display is just amazing really. If you sit away from any direct lights, you'll find the crease disappears and you're using a small tablet with a crisp, 120Hz display.

Loving the Tab S7 Plus. I never had a Tab this big before. I will say writing notes on the jumbo sized screen is amazing. Going back to a Note phone or even the smaller fold would probably fee strange.

Amazon tonight is starting to get them back in stock again. But then again that's a lot of cash to spend when the 22 Ultra will be out in 2 months and we all know its specs will blow the Fold 3 out of the water. I'm reading more reports the last few days on Reddit of the screens failing on the Fold 3.

The main issue with that is Samsung customer service nightmare.

When ordering from Amazon if the screen broke would Amazon take it back without arguing unlike Samsung if it's within the return period? My next phone I will probably just order from Amazon anyway since I'm giving my mother my s21 Ultra.

I might give the Pixel 6 Pro a look if the S22U doesn't have built in spen.

I currently have the S21 Ultra. Amazon has the unlocked US version for $1500 now which is a great price and you get it in a couple days.

I'm tempted, BUT as we know the S22 ultra comes out in Feb which is soon and shoudl have the Spen silo build in and the large, boxy screen and will have better specs than the older Fold that's been out since late Aug.

Should I wait and see what the S22 specs are and then see if there are better deals then? If I want a Z fold 3 I would think even better deals right before the S line launches in late Jan.

I know the camera isn't nearly as good as the S21 Ultra.

Flossy and Saki say keep the S21 Ultra if you already on it and wait to see what the S22 Ultra/Note offers.

I know Samsung.com offers better trade in value BUT I think I want to keep the S21 Ultra as a backup phone and Amazon being 300 cheaper is a huge savings and easier to deal with if you have an issue like shipped broken device, etc. Much easier than dealing with Sammy customer support.

Just ask yourself whether the big screen of fold gives you something that you want. If yes then buy the fold. Forget about minor factor like built-in pen slot. S22ultra will have a better zoom camera for sure. Maybe overall camera is better (but minor jump from say 92% to 96% satisfaction). Price is also not a factor. When s22 comes out, effective price maybe just $200 cheaper than fold 3. S22ultra battery life and CPU will be better but this only make a difference if you are an avid gamer.

I'm waiting for S22 Ultra. Currently have Z Fold 3. Traded Note 20U for it. I feel that I made a mistake. The Z Fold of course is a very nice phone, but I miss Note 20U. With too many reports about damaged internal screen (almost every day someone complains on Reddit), it is questionable if Z Fold 3 will last a long time.

I'm waiting for the Samsung Galaxy s22 Ultra too.

However I'm enjoying what the Fold³ brings in it's own right.

As for how it'll fair over time who knows as it's early days.

Yes, we always hear the negatives on things. I'll go by personal experience myself. I'm not saying the fold 3 will never have screen issues, I'm still in the wait and see column, but I'm not going to get scared off by reports either. We can find plenty of negative reports on any device, as we usually hear mostly the negatives on anything.

I like the fold 3 so much I would be ok replacing the screen once in a 2 year lifespan, if I kept it 2 years. I wouldn't be all giddy about it but I would do it. I usually upgrade yearly so I don't have phone issues, that's been with every phone I've owned.

The S22U will have a screen about the size of the Note 20 Ultra I hear and more boxy. Both of both worlds. large screen still and no small front screen like the Fold has.

I can see a lot of diehard phone users switching to the S22Ultra with the built in spen, large screen, amazing camera. Overall just more features than the fold.

What's Samsung going to do with the Fold inventory if sales on it drop like a rock a month from now when more news on the S22 comes out?

The posts about bad screens on the Fold are popping up like weeds lately though. Never saw the amount of posts for the Note 20 or S21 Ultra for failures on stuff.

You search and you find. As I said, all negatives are always posted. I didn't search hard, but failures and issues is amongst all phones.

New technology always has risks, the fold is obviously not for you.
