Jumping ship to another phone. Help me out guys.

I went through a similar exercise recently - contract was up in August so I've been watching since then. I really like the Nexus concept, but the 4g is a generation behind. The Photon was my favorite until the sgs2e4t came out; by the specs they look about the same but sgs2 users seem happier overall. I would slightly prefer the sgs2 over the Photon, but-

When the Photon was free on Black Friday, I was very close to pulling the trigger. In the end I decided my Optimus will be fine until mid- or late-year, when LTE devices (hopefully including the new Nexus) will be available; I'd rather not have to trust in Clearwire staying solvent until I'm ready to upgrade again, and I'm not interested in paying retail for a phone. :)

As always, my two cents are worth what you paid. Best of luck and happy holidays!

Nice. Please let me know how it compares in battery life to the Optimus S when you get the chance. If it's comparable... I'll definitely be hopping on board.

Actually, Sprint has already funded the Clearwire network through I believe 2014... so that's not a problem. I'll be using 3G anyway, since 4G is still WAY too high a battery drain.

Yeah, I'll update and let you guys know how I like it. :) Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I actually called a co-worker and he almost talked me into getting the Iphone (or at least he thought so.... lol). I seem to be the only one in my department that's tech-savvy enough to hold it down for Android!

I've been using the EVO3d with infected ROM by virus from xda. I must say this is the smoothest device I've ever used. Quadrant around 3000 battery life between 18-20 hours. Very stable and build quality is excellent. HTC sense 3.0 is also superb.

The Optimus S community here has been great! This is really what got me into the Android platform and even dabble in some development. This will always be my home. :D At this point, I'm due for an upgrade and need to grab it while I'm still able to. I've been reading/researching and I'm really eying the Samsung Galaxy S II with Sprint as my upgrade. Would like to get anyone's opinion on what phone I should consider. If anyone has experience with other phones or owns any of the other Sprint phones, I would like to hear recommendations. At this point, all I have to go on is reviews from general Sprint customers from the Sprint site, etc...

EDIT: Just bought the SGS2G2S4GIIGalaxyAndroidSprint from Amazon for 79.99. :D
And thanks everyone for the input! I will be sure to stick my head in here and visit! (as if anyone would miss me at this point based on how long I've been absent... lmao!!)

up grade threw Amazon? How does that work?

Just wanted to report back guys. Thanks for not letting me forget this thread tmeader! ;)

I love the Galaxy S II. It was definitely worth the upgrade! The screen is a good size for me; however, it may not be for some... I have large hands and I like the larger screen.
It's very fast and smooth. And the best thing about it: It's Android! ;)
I have rooted, rom'd, and using custom prl (with plans to use the roam control app in the future). My 3G speeds are usually above 1.5mb at home and around 600kbps at work... All in all a great phone.
Another thing with this is the battery life is VERY impressive!! With normal daily use, making some calls, sending texts, browsing the net, etc. I usually end up with more than 50% battery left by the time I make it home. I overused it today to purposely test it and I sat at about 38% when I hit the door. That's without a charger plugged into it all day. :)
Get this phone if you can!

Are there any changes or additions in ICS that grab your attention, for good or bad? IM wondering if 4.0 is awesome enough to warrant getting it now, or if I should just wait for a few updates and a price drop first...

It will depend on preference as far as the software goes... There are a few little things that stand out in the software; however i couldnt say whether its the samsung edits or the android system itself. Overall, its very nice! Usually best buy has really good deals on phones. And, they also put a phone on sale each week for a dollar! This time i didnt go to best buy because during the holiday season, amazon.com had it om sale for an unbeatable price: 79.99! You may want to keep an eye out on amazon.com.

Actually, I'm the one that mentioned the 79.99... which now seems to have been an error on Amazon's part (should never have been the "upgrade price", just the "new line" price). Basket, consider yourself lucky that they didn't refuse the charge actually, because it seems like a lot of people had the 79.99 order declined due to "error".

Wishing now that I'd just jumped on it then, because I'm HATING the Optimus S now that I've moved to ZVH. Bluetooth in my car is no longer working properly, and worst of all, the Google Sync Service seems to just stop working CONSTANTLY. I can't be bothered to go back and redo everything again (SD card with the nandroid of ZVD crapped out after I moved to ZVH too... joy), so I'm SERIOUSLY considering just going to the Galaxy S II and getting it overwith now.

You haven't had any issues at all with the sync not working have you? Also, which ROM are you using for the Galaxy S II? I saw one called "Calkin" I think that seems extremely popular.

Thanks.

Note: tried gRom, Your Mom Rom and even beta tested HydroRom... all with the latest Gingerkernel. Seems to be issues inherent to ZVH.

I didnt seem to have as many issues as you with my optimus s and it ran GREAT on HydroRom! :) Thats one thing about the galaxy s II that isnt great. :p seriously.

I havent had any issues to report. Running calkulin rom, rooted (obviously), custom prl (roam with 3G). It runs great! I did l the rooting and flashing the old school way rather than using odin. Seems more people are messing their phones up than actually using the program properly... I took what i learned from all the great people in the LG optimus s forum and have applied all the old school mehods ans have had a great experience. The optimus was a great introduction to android for me. This is a good "next step" for me. :D
If you end up getting it let me know and i'll try to help make everything easier for you! ;)

Thanks. What's the "one thing about the galaxy s II that isn't great" though? Or did you just mean the lack of "HydroROM"? Heh.

I was lookin at that for my wife but verizon is wanting to rap e us on the drop fee still. we may wait till this summer to get her on my plan. We could actually save that much in a year by switching to sprint.
Anywho that is a awesome device. Enjoy.
Im holding out for some ics myself.
:)

Thanks for all the advice. Last night I tried one more complete wipe of EVERYTHING with HydroRom again, and, for the first time in weeks, it SEEMS to have retained sync all night. If it can at least do that okay, I might hold off for a little while. My other big thing is that I got in on the Optimus S right before Sprint started the extra 10 dollar fee. So, as long as I don't upgrade the phone, it's 10 bucks less per month.

Figure I'll at least check out if anything is announced at CES that seems worth considering. Otherwise, I'll probably still go with the GS II sometime in Feb. So sick of the "Insufficient space" messages it's not even funny anymore.
