Jumping ship to another phone. Help me out guys.

I'm in the same situation as basketthis. I just upgraded to the Galaxy S II because my wife broke her phone, so I gave her mine. I'm really going to miss the Optimus S development community. You guys are fantastic!

basketthis, what is this roam lock app that you found for the GS2?

There is more info over at xda. Type "epic 4g touch roam control" into google and it will bring you to the appropriate information. You must be rooted. Also, fyi, its an epic 4g touch at xda. :p

Ive got an epic 4g flashed to cricket...think the roam control app would still work for me? need to force roam to sprint towers in a few locations.

Here is the website: Roam Control | Making Android phones usable since 2010. Give it a try. He honors refunds up to 24 hours. Which is way better than the 15 min the market gives! Ive had no issues and its been running great! Now, you may have to play with it or reboot after changing a setting to get it to work so make sure you give it an honest try before throwing in the towel and saying it doesnt work. Which, if i know anything about the people on this forum, is not something you would do. But, it does state that its based around sprint phones so you may have a little trial and error on your network. Or not. It may work perfectly. Also, the dev is active in forums and seems to be trying to expand the market for his app so you may be able to help him port it over if there are issues. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!!

I am really wanting to get the SGSII but I am torn because of the possibility of LTE coming soon. Do you all change your phone all the time, or are you planning on sticking with the SGSII without LTE? Like I said, I am torn on switching now, or waiting for LTE. Thoughts?

I'm more or less in the same situation. However, LTE or WiMax both sorta kill the battery, so I'm not going to be using either extensively no matter what I got. There's no ETA for either of the two announced LTE Sprint phones though, so "soon" is relative. The specs on either are no better than the SGSII (other than the higher screen res on the Galaxy Nexus). Just depends on how much you want to get rid of the Optimus really :) HydroROM has helped some (LOVE the fact that they've solved the "Out of space" issue when installing/updating apps)... but the Optimus is having many other problems with WiFi constantly turning itself off ever since moving to ZVH. Also, the lag due to the general lack of power of the phone is really just starting to get to me. My other reason for wanting to jump ship is that I want a far better camera to always have on-hand (the one in the SGSII is second only to the iPhone 4S). Just last night saw that, if you get it in-store at Target, you can get the Epic Touch 4G for $99 on UPGRADE (not just a new line). VERY good price.

Note: WiMax will be supported until the beginning of 2015. I'll be upgrading before then.

See, where I am at I don't have WiMax at all. So, it is get it as is using 3G only, or wait for LTE. Is LTE that big of a battery hog? For what I do, 3G speeds are acceptable, but at the same time no matter what I upgrade to I am now going to have to pay the $10 extra/month.

If the market you're in doesn't have WiMax, are you sure you'd get LTE anyway? I always use WiFi when available anyway. And yes, LTE is that much of a battery drain compared to 3G.

I would assume I would get LTE. Every other carrier already has LTE here. The real question is not will I get LTE, but when will I get LTE. However, if it drains battery that much, I probably would never use it anyways. So, maybe I need to go check out Target.

3G ftw. Seeing around 1mbps depending on the area and with roam control i have no issue having a good connection... Its very true that 4G and LTE drain alot of battery. Not worth it imo. Tried it once. Its great. Its fast, but the trade off does not make it worth it unless you plan on charging your phone the whole time.

My first phone was an EVO, but i traded it in for the optimus within a month. the battery life was so bad in general, I didn't dare leave 4G enabled.
