I'm short on time so I'll keep this short. Here's just a list of apps I use to help improve my experience on the Evo 3D, without root. I made this thread because a friend offered to let me have his upgrade (most likely SGSII) if I am willing to pay the $200 for the new phone and give him my Evo 3D. I love this phone but lately have been feeling buyer's remorse with issues such as the camera being underwhelming and sense being annoying as hell with its widgets constantly stuck in "loading". But after reading these forums, I've come to appreciate what this phone has to offer and I realize that there are always apps that offer solutions to whatever frustrations you have with stock apps/settings/etc. So here's my list of apps that has refreshed my love for the Evo 3D, and if you have some you want to add, feel free to tell us what you've got. I've also included market links for those browsing on your phone, and I'm also curious to hear if others are tempted to switch over to the SGSII over similar frustrations.

Nope, they removed that feature after the 2.3.4 update. Something to do with privacy and keeping perverts from taking pictures of people unbeknownst to them. I found Silent Snap to be pretty good, although it only works when I silence the ringer. Seems to be the best workout so far without rooting.

This is a great idea for a thread. While obviously there is no "perfect" device that suits everyone's needs there are lots of apps out there that fill in any gaps. I enjoy Android for this very reason!

Thanks! Interesting about the shutter sound - I disabled it right away. Its still disabled but I no longer have the option to enable it

I could not get the volume+ app to increase the volume.

Hmm, here's what my settings are, and they pretty much push my speakers to the limit. Go into Volume+/ Speaker Settings, and check on Speaker Modifications, Virtual Room Effect, EQ settings at Good Quality, Max Volume Level at +9, Bass Enhance at +2, everything else under advanced settings is unchecked. All my music and sound from videos are nice and loud and blow away my friend's iPhone 4, even in a car ride with music and people talking. You can still hear the sound although can sometimes get really tinny. Give that a try. If you checked on Speaker modifications under Advanced settings and kept the mixing bars at the default (0), that's probably why you're not noticing a difference.

Yeah, some lucky people are reporting that if it was muted prior to the 2.3.4 upgrade, that it was left unchanged. Didn't happen for me though when I upgraded :\

ok, here are my thoughts to you the OP....

first off, the Sence widgets should NOT be in a constant loading state. once you start or restart your phone, your widgets should load, then stay loaded. using skins such as the ones you stated (like the reverse clock) wont change this, so if your phone is constantly resetting for some odd reason, skins wont help you. you a) have a bad phone, or b) have an app that doesn't play nice with the evo3d.
now if by chance you just don't like the Sence 3.0 widgets, you can always download a ton of new widgets from any app store.

while the update to 2.3.4 GB did remove the camera's shutter sound settings, it was a bug that will probably be addressed in a future update. the whole "creepy" aspect to not using sound was started by me (and this forum ran with it as the reason) and is NOT the true reason it is no longer in the settings. hTc has already had 4 updates for this phone in under 2 months...I'm sure that there will be more updates to fix most of the bugs that are left over.

I'm still not sure why you feel buyers remorse for the evo3d. is it just because of your widgets and the lack of camera sound setting? come on, tell the truth. you just wana tinker with a new gadget right? lol

the SGS2 is going to be a great phone. but bare in mind that it is NOT perfect, and will have it's own bugs. so why didn't I wait to upgrade to the SGS2 phone? first off, I like sence 3.0 better then touchwiz 4.0. if you don't like the sence widgets, you might hate touchwiz like me (ok, I don't hate touchwiz or the widgets, it is that in my mind, sence is far more polished).
the display on the new sammy phone will be nice, but when reading text, watching a movie, or playing 3d video games, a qHD screen is sharper, clearer, and will have less jaggies on the E3D. if the software is the same as the EU phone, then the SGS2 doesn't auto wrap type when using pinch to zoom to read websites. it is my understanding that you must press a button each time you want type to wrap to fit the screen, and may only work when used on phone friendly websites (but I'm sure it works for even non friendly sites. just not too sure as reviewers are NOT speaking about this as they only want to hype the phone).
if you hate bugs then I'm not too sure you will like the SGS2 phone. after all, just how good is sammy with updating their phones? the record so far is not too good I'm afraid. you might be stuck with a non working GPS for 6 months or some other bug. is this what you are looking foward to?

I know you are feeling buyers remores right now, but personally, you will get over it real soon when you see tons of people with their SGS2 phones that have bugs not being addressed by samsung.

just my 2 cents

I never said that by skinning Sense that it would fix the loading problem on widgets. I put those up as a way for me and others to feel like they own a new phone again with something fresh. The loading problem is still there and only goes away when I tap them repeatedly or scroll up and down while they're loading, eventually they load information, but then Sense (not the phone itself) will randomly restart after a while. There's probably a memory leak somewhere. This has been the case with my old Evo 4g, with my friend's Thunderbolt, Incredible, etc. It's a known and common bug in HTC phones, not because I have a bad phone. Replacing it with another won't help my situation and for that matter, not big enough of a deal for me to swap out phones anyways.

Secondly, I didn't say my disappointment in the camera was the lack of turning off shutter sounds. Go back and read my post because you're making connections between points that aren't there. I said the camera was underwhelming, meaning the quality just isn't what I was expecting from a next-gen phone. The shutter sound is an entirely different thing, and one that I don't mind since I already found a fix for it. Also, I find it strange that you would take credit and claim that you started a rumor about the shutter sounds being forced on after the OTA. An issue with privacy was something I assumed the second I couldn't find the shutter sound check box in the camera menus. Anybody could've come to that conclusion on their own, I don't see why you think you masterminded an elaborate rouse and have us all fooled. There's evidence to lead that privacy is in fact the reason why HTC forced shutter sounds on permenantly due to legislation currently being reviewed that would lead to tech companies having to enforce this law. This is already enforced in other countries.

And as far as I know, the SGS2, though 6 months old, has reported very little issues, no GPS problems like the previous generation, and yes, I know it isn't a perfect phone. But neither is the Evo 3D. This thread is about why I am sticking with the Evo 3D because of apps I and others found that don't make my phone feel gimped in comparison to other phones without having to root, that provides a workaround for bugs or otherwise refresh the phone and feel new with a little customization. My original post didn't say one thing about me making a final decision to drop my Evo for the SGSII, although I'll admit that I'm still considering it, though it is entirely up to my friend and what he wants to do with his upgrade.

If you wanna know all the reasons for why I feel buyer's remorse, it's as follows:

1.) Fake Bootloader unlock. I seriously can't believe the bait-and-switch they pulled. I trusted HTC and have only used HTC phones. Can't load up custom recoveries, can't load custom roms. Pointless and only records voided warranties.

2.) Camera quality: I tweak and tweak and tweak, I'm just getting real tired of telling people to freeze for 10 seconds so I can adjust the ISO and saturation levels.

3.) Build quality: The metal around my camera lens is already really scratched up, and that's with a case on. I must've also pried too hard on the back cover because now it's not as form-fitting as it used to be, and thus causes a small gap between the back and the phone itself.

4.) Sense is bloaty as hell. I love Sense, I love how it "wows" people when they see it, the carousel effect, the nice black glass transparencies on the widgets, the ridiculously awesome lockscreen, but sometimes my gallery and screen locks up. And it's pretty embarassing. Gallery especially, when every action you make causes 5 second long lag stutters.

I'm too tired to remember the rest, but my experience with the 3vo has not been as jaw-dropping as the Evo 4g was when I first got it. But that's okay, because I still love this phone and I'm willing to deal with all the issues I just listed. But if someone is going to offer me their upgrade, I'm sure as hell going to consider it.

Thanks! I really liked that Electric Blue Skin. I was always disappointed that the Blue Sky theme from HTC didn't change the color of the title bar.

not evo3d specific, another vote here that go launcher ex is pretty sweet. wave launcher's cool too for multitasking (it isn't just a folder thing, set up a hotzone and depending on how you configure it, quickly change your brightness, radio station, anything)..

Just so everyone knows that didn't get hit with shutter sound after the update. DON'T reset your camera to default or you will be stuck with the shutter noise! (or atleast that appears to bring it back)
