I never said that by skinning Sense that it would fix the loading problem on widgets. I put those up as a way for me and others to feel like they own a new phone again with something fresh. The loading problem is still there and only goes away when I tap them repeatedly or scroll up and down while they're loading, eventually they load information, but then Sense (not the phone itself) will randomly restart after a while. There's probably a memory leak somewhere. This has been the case with my old Evo 4g, with my friend's Thunderbolt, Incredible, etc. It's a known and common bug in HTC phones, not because I have a bad phone. Replacing it with another won't help my situation and for that matter, not big enough of a deal for me to swap out phones anyways.
Secondly, I didn't say my disappointment in the camera was the lack of turning off shutter sounds. Go back and read my post because you're making connections between points that aren't there. I said the camera was underwhelming, meaning the quality just isn't what I was expecting from a next-gen phone. The shutter sound is an entirely different thing, and one that I don't mind since I already found a fix for it. Also, I find it strange that you would take credit and claim that you started a rumor about the shutter sounds being forced on after the OTA. An issue with privacy was something I assumed the second I couldn't find the shutter sound check box in the camera menus. Anybody could've come to that conclusion on their own, I don't see why you think you masterminded an elaborate rouse and have us all fooled. There's evidence to lead that privacy is in fact the reason why HTC forced shutter sounds on permenantly due to legislation currently being reviewed that would lead to tech companies having to enforce this law. This is already enforced in other countries.
And as far as I know, the SGS2, though 6 months old, has reported very little issues, no GPS problems like the previous generation, and yes, I know it isn't a perfect phone. But neither is the Evo 3D. This thread is about why I am sticking with the Evo 3D because of apps I and others found that don't make my phone feel gimped in comparison to other phones without having to root, that provides a workaround for bugs or otherwise refresh the phone and feel new with a little customization. My original post didn't say one thing about me making a final decision to drop my Evo for the SGSII, although I'll admit that I'm still considering it, though it is entirely up to my friend and what he wants to do with his upgrade.
If you wanna know all the reasons for why I feel buyer's remorse, it's as follows:
1.) Fake Bootloader unlock. I seriously can't believe the bait-and-switch they pulled. I trusted HTC and have only used HTC phones. Can't load up custom recoveries, can't load custom roms. Pointless and only records voided warranties.
2.) Camera quality: I tweak and tweak and tweak, I'm just getting real tired of telling people to freeze for 10 seconds so I can adjust the ISO and saturation levels.
3.) Build quality: The metal around my camera lens is already really scratched up, and that's with a case on. I must've also pried too hard on the back cover because now it's not as form-fitting as it used to be, and thus causes a small gap between the back and the phone itself.
4.) Sense is bloaty as hell. I love Sense, I love how it "wows" people when they see it, the carousel effect, the nice black glass transparencies on the widgets, the ridiculously awesome lockscreen, but sometimes my gallery and screen locks up. And it's pretty embarassing. Gallery especially, when every action you make causes 5 second long lag stutters.
I'm too tired to remember the rest, but my experience with the 3vo has not been as jaw-dropping as the Evo 4g was when I first got it. But that's okay, because I still love this phone and I'm willing to deal with all the issues I just listed. But if someone is going to offer me their upgrade, I'm sure as hell going to consider it.
I'm sorry but my comments on the sence 3.0 widgets stands. no, it is not normal on the E3D (or the Thunderbolt, Incredible, etc. ). it is NOT a known bug and is caused by a few reasons...a) you have a bad phone, b) you have an app that is not playing nice, and finaly c) people are killing their tasks with an app killer that may also reset sence or the widgets. I know two other people with the E3D and nobody has this problem. you also don't see anyone posting this problem on this forum.
I'm not saying that you or others don't have this issue, but it is NOT common.
as for the camera issues I commented on, I'm sorry if I got confused. you did say that YOU wanted to change phones because of an underwelming camera and sence being anoying as hell with it's widgets. but when you go on to tell us more about your camera issues, well, you don't. are we suposed to guess?
at least in this post you state everything you don't like about the camera. you clearly don't like it. that's cool by me if you don't. not every phone has great cameras. at least I don't need or expect a great camera on any phone. when it comes to cameras, I at least understand what the settings are, and how they work. sadly no phone has all the settings on a good P&S or dSLR and as such all cameras on phones suck by comparison. if you honestly think that a different phone will take great photos in all cases when set on full "auto" then be my guest and enjoy. but I think that you are streaching the truth....the E3D takes better photos and videos in all light modes then the EVO4G. far clearer with better or faster responce to change in lighting. sadly, once again I think you have a semi bad phone.
about build quality...
I use two cases for my phone. none scratched any part of my phone. next time, please clean out your case before putting them on any phone. this will happen on any phone if not used properly.
sence is bloated as hell, I agree. it's the reason why everything, even brousing multi websites is just sooooo awesome.
but if you are having screen lockups or your gallery don't work like everyone else's, THEN YOU HAVE A BAD PHONE.
how many issues are you going to have with a device before you understand that is is semi or fully broken? I don't have any issues like you do. I'm not even a pro at android so I tinker and try to learn a lot while fooling around on my new phone. I just don't have such huge pains with my phone like you do, and others are in the same boat as me. now I'm not saying that hTc has the best quality controle out there. others like samsung and motorola also put out bad phones. but people like you that get a bad phone and think that everyone has issues like you are fooling themselfs.
now hold on for just a second...this thread is about how you want to keep the E3D and not thinking of getting a SGS2? again, please be more clear when you post, because when you write that you are posting this thread because your friend is offering to give you his upgrade in the first post (second or third sentance no less) then you are once again not being clear with us. I'll even go on to say that why did he make such an offer to you "if" you didn't bring it to his attention first and was thinking about how you may want to jump ship. I'm sorry if I sound like I'm just being argumentitive, but you are not being totally honest with us.
