So I just bought a m8 to replace my 5S and so far I like it a lot. It feels very fast, battery is great, and the build quality is too notch. The one thing I'm not sure about is the camera and I wonder if I'm going to regret not going with something with a better camera. But everything else seems great.

But is the M8 getting old at this point? It has been out for 6 months. Which is kinda old by tech standards these days. I'm having this weird worry I should have gone with something released more recently, even though the M8 is still among the best performers.

Anyway, I still think this was the best option for me considering I value performance and battery life. But again have a possible incorrect anxiety with it being one of the older flagships these days. Also, please HTC, start doing better financially. We don't wanna lose you

I also just jumped from Apple to the m8. I think the rumors are that HTC will be announcing an m8 with a higher megapixel camera next week.

I was bummed when I heard that, but there may also be tradeoffs, with the new camera most likely performing worse in low light.

This is all rumors right now as far as I know, but if you don't make prints of your phone photos, the m8's camera is good enough. Everything else about the phone is pretty future proof and goes to to toe with the brand new iPhone 6+. New Android phones will blow the m8 out of the water in specs I'm sure, but HTC's sense runs great, so I wouldn't trust specs alone. Higher resolution screens are becoming the next big upgrade, but as a cinematographer, I find that overkill in every way. When 99% of video content is 1080p at best, higher resolution screens are mostly just going to tax those higher specs for a nearly imperceivable boost in pixels.

The only thing the M8 doesn't handle well is a bright sun in the background and cropping. It excels in low light however. I get the feeling the new HTC phones going forward will be the opposite. Like others have said, there are tradeoffs.

I was just worried that maybe I made the wrong choice going for the M8 over the G3. I used the G3 before and while the camera was better and I like the replaceable battery, I didn't find that it performed as well as I'd like. Where as the M8 performs well, has great battery life, but a so-so camera. And it dissent help that most sites claim th he g3 is the best available and hardly mention th he M8 anymore

Every phone has trade offs. None of them perfect. It's about what you value most and can't compromise on.

To me a 2 years phone is old... Not a 6 months phone.

The funny thing is I've been considering switching to an M8 from my S5. I just tell myself since my phone still works I'm going to wait and see what the M9 brings to the table.

Enjoy the phone! I'm envious for some reason. ;)

ya i would wait until the next HTC..

Personally I think they may have already fixed the camera lens issue - if you're talking about the hazing/scratches that appear on the lens coating??
I have had mine for about 6 weeks now and do not use a case. I always keep it in my front pocket and the camera lens doesn't have one scratch anywhere to be seen. So "maybe" HTC fixed the issue on their later releases from manufacturing?
