Just cancelled my Play store order

I just got off of the phone with a Google CSR. I requested that my N7 order be cancelled since my local Gamestop has units in stock and not pre-ordered. The CSR put me on hold twice while my request went to the "escalation team" or something like that. Finally, he said that my request had been processed, and I should receive a confirmation email with the cancellation #.

I am not paying shipping and waiting when I can walk into a store to buy one. Google really dropped the ball here.

I have no problem paying the shipping if I have it a few days earlier than in store sales. If I get it later then what was the point. I'll call and if they will take it back plus shipping ill send it back and buy local. Maybe they can just give the the $14 in a store credit I'd be happy.

Please let us know when you get back from Gamestop with your N7.

Thanks.

I would go right now if they would sell it to me. If they ship tomorrow from the Play store I should be able to stop by on my way home from work and pick one up.

I just tried to cancel my preorder, too. Unfortunately, the representative told me that they were unable to cancel it as preorder shipment processing was already occurring. He mentioned that they might be able to do a stop shipment, but he couldn't guarantee it.

I think Google has handled this really poorly. Amazon did a much better job with the Kindle Fire:

1. I knew the *exact* day my Fire was going to ship
2. Retail stores didn't get the Fire until I think a few days later
3. Amazon shipped all the first wave of orders early so it was delivered on the release date instead of being shipped on the release date.

Google has been really, really crappy with their handling of this release. It makes me not want it at all. When I get it, I might just be returning it unopened and wait for the Kindle Fire 2. (I haven't decided on that yet.)

My local gamestop (san jose) just told me they won't be selling them until at least july 31. Weird...Staples in SJ just told me that they should have them between the 14th and 18th (--the clerk is going by the info on staples.com)

I agree on Amazon.

FWIW, I still haven't received my cancellation #, but I did get this generic type of reply.

Thank you for contacting Google. It was a pleasure getting to speak with
you today. As promised, I've forwarded your case to a specialist to begin
working to resolve your issue as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you come across any other information that you'd like
to pass along, please feel free to reply to this email. Your responses
will automatically go to the specialist working on your case.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding.

@jbc28 you do realize google hasn't made an official announcement and they could wait until next week and still be inside the 2-3 week window. Also you don't know that the stores can sell before pre-orders are

I think you may regret cancelling that order. The units that have actually been sold were done so without permission and all places that were doing it have stopped. Please post back if you get lucky and get a unit at GS.

Edit: But I completely agree. Google dropped the ball. Why the secrecy? Blah Blah Blah on the comeback. They have them on pallets waiting so a delivery date is not that complicated. They could say July 17th and Id be fine. If they send it out early, then guess what? Id feel lucky and like El Goog did me a favor. Give us a date and be done with it. The fact that ANYONE got it from a brick and mortar as opposed to the Play store should be taken as a direct threat to Google and those stores should be fined. This is the first time I have ever preordered instead of just waiting and buying in person for something. I was worried that it would sell out actually. I also liked the idea of getting it directly from Google but this is getting to be stupid. Nilay from The Verge just walks across the street and buys one on a whim while I have to pay shipping FROM THE SOURCE and wait an unknown amount of time. BS Google, BS.

I tried to cancel mine as well and was told basically the same thing. However, I was told I would have to deny delivery then wait two weeks for a refund.

Did you at least reserve it at Gamestop? Ima laugh if they sell the extras and you're too late.

Apparently you can still order from Adorama. I looked at their page and you can add it to cart and there is no mention of it not being able to ship.

Edit.....Cancel that, just called them and they said they can't take orders for the N7 until the 16th. If some guy from Google just called Adorama to stop selling the tablets I wonder why someone just doesn't call them and say, "hey this is so and so from Google, go ahead and start selling those tablets"?

I have actually considered emptying the bank account that the Google Play store took the authorization on. That would prevent them from being able to charge my account successfully. If they can't charge the account, then they won't ship the N7. It might be worth facing an overdraft fee from my bank to avoid having to wait several weeks for a refund.

Hmmmm....I will have to give that some serious consideration.

If you called to cancel and haven't gotten the confirmation yet, that's normal. On the first day I cancelled my 8GB order and changed to the 16GB version. I didn't get the official order cancellation until the next day.

As for actually canceling without any definitive information, I think that wasn't too smart of a move. They could ship the pre-orders tomorrow and Gamestop may not sell til late next week - you don't know. And of course, that's the problem...

I am not reserving one until I get a confirmation that my play order is cancelled. I don't need two of them.

I don't really care if I do miss out on one. I cancelled mainly for the principle of it. I have never pre-ordered anything. I think it is incredibly bad form to offer pre orders, charge shipping, offer no updates of any kind, and then stock up local stores.

Actually I just had another thought... As the account that I had set my preorder to charge was my personal "fun money" account, and not any monthly bills or joint accounts, I just went ahead and cancelled the debit card and ordered a new one.

I'm assuming that, even though they may already have an authorization code, if the credit card that authorization code is for is no longer an active debit card then, not only should the charge not go through, it shouldn't overdraw my account either.

I don't feel like waiting two weeks for a refund. Again, if this was Amazon, the refund would be done as soon as the returned item was received. That's poor customer service Google....very, very poor.

Oh hey i live in SJ too xD

You're going through the trouble of canceling a debit card to avoid paying for something you pre-ordered and aren't able to cancel because they're probably in the process of putting your tablet in a box and getting ready to ship it?

Wow.

I don't know why this should surprise anyone. I think that Google has handled this thing really poorly. I don't know about you, but I abhor poor customer service. I have been in service industries my entire professional career, and I think that this is subpar at best. It makes me not want the product at all. A two week wait for a refund, however, is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Alternatively, getting a new debit card was exceedingly easy. It took a three minute call to my bank and I'll have it by Saturday. No muss, no fuss. No waiting 2 weeks for a refund. Easy.
