Can someone please point me to or offer "directions" for removing the Unrevoked 3 root ? I can promise directing me to a "thread" isn't going to help. I've been looking for a week.

-All I want to do is reset my phone back to factory settings so that I can download the official 2.2 over the air.

-Can I just hard reset my phone to remove the 2.1 Unrevoked Root?

I don't know why I'm so confused but I keep searching and finding threads that all seem to point to somethig slighly different than what I'm trying to do.

If your on 2.2 you have to find the 2.2 RUU, if you have 2.1, flash a the RvU rom, and then run the RUU in the return to stock thread.

Forget it. I appreciate the help but I'm apparently too stupid :) I'll try again another day and just live with what I have.

It's going to be a PITA. Keep at it and you will get it done, though. It took me 4-5 tries before it took using the RUU.

I dont' even know the difference in a RUU and an RvU. On top of that there seem to be 8000 versions of each. Not version 1 thru 8000 but version 1.2.344455 vs 1.2.4.33233 blah blah blah.

I downloaded everything and finally ran the RvU. The phone looks like it's back to stock so now I'm going to try this RUU deal and see what happens.

If you can install RvU you should be able to install most rooted 2.2 ROM's. I wanted to try CM6, so I had to unroot (cause I used unrevoked) and then use simple root. Some people have had good luck just using simple root on top of unrevoked, but I wasn't one of them.

The steps in the unrooting and returning to stock are good, and everything is there. You just have to make sure you don't miss a step and if it doesn't work try again. I swear I spent 3 hours one night getting it done when it should really only take 30 minutes max.

We are here to help, you just have to have some patience and wait for us to reply.

A lot of people like it because it's built completely off of open source code, so there's no HTC code in there. It's as close as you can get to vanilla android, ie no Sense or any skins like that on top of android.

I personally use the AC ROM. It's rock solid and runs great. The support from the devs is awesome.

There are tons of ROM's out there and some have advantages over others. I like the ones that have tweaks for better battery life built in.

If you like the way the EVO looks stock then you will like AC.

How do I boot into recovery mode? I thought I could use the ROM Manager to do that or install my rom which is not on the SD card but it isn't working. Also can't seem to install Nandroid.

Rom manager gives you the option to boot into recovery. It also gives you the option to install a rom from the sd card. The other way to boot into recovery is to turn your phone off and when you turn it back on hold down the volume down and power button. It should boot into recovery. You don't install nandroid, it's part of the boot loader (i think).

If you want to install a rom not on your sd card you have to download it through rom manager. If you download a rom on your computer you have to transfer it to your sd card first, then use rom manager (the easiest way) to install. It will prompt you and ask if you want to make a backup and wipe. I would say yes to the backup (unless you already made one) and the wipe depends on the rom, but most require a full wipe.
