Just Factory REset...

how did you go about savng your contacts? I wanna do a factory reset to get a fresh start

can any one please tell me how do i do a factory reset?
and how would i erase all my history from the phone?
so i can install a new rom? (i know i don't have to do this but i would like to )

Here is directions on how to do a hard reset:

1. Turn the power off. If your HTC EVO 4G is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Hold the Volume Down button
3. Press and release the Power button
4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power button
7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC EVO 4G. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

I had to do a factory reset yesterday (Thursday) due to the crappy "Error 67" and after that I went from 7 hours of battery life to 13 hours of battery life while at work with a very crappy signal.

I don't know why/how it happened, but I am really diggin' my new battery life!

BTW.. all my contacts were in google from my Palm Pre days so everything sync'd back up no problem. Just had to redown load my apps and set my 7 home screens back to the way I wanted them.

i factory reset Tuesday because my evo was stuttering and freezing...
I too have noticed a HUGE improvement in my battery, even while leaving everything on.

I too had to do a factory reset. I believe that my OS was corrupted partially since it was constantly talking over the network. Glad I did at this point. Got everything back up and running within 30 minutes. Very glad that I made that decision.

so if i do a reset i wont have to try to reinstall my number just reenter my gmail after the reset
also is there a way to save a list of the apps i have installed b4 the wipe thanks in advance

Is the new and improved battery life with:

1) Unrevoked and the overclockwidget
Or
2) Just the stock OS?

thanks in advance

I'm about to do this as well. I'm getting pretty tired of this horrible battery life Im getting. lost 40% in 2 hours this morning. Have tried almost all the recommendations on the forums about improving life but no luck. I feel like something that is not showing is draining the hell out of the battery.

Gmaxxx - have you used "Spare Parts"? This is how I found that my phone had a process UID 10006 using the 3G network all the time (3G icon white always).

I didn't try to save the apps. The only way I know of how to do that is to have the phone rooted, which I'm not the biggest fan of (even though i get more functionality - I just want to stick with the phone setup the way they have it).

When I had my phone reloaded and went into the market it did show all my applications - the FIRST time only. After I installed a few, closed the market app, and then opened up the download tabs again there were none of the apps that I had downloaded before. It did have purchased apps available for me to re-download right away.

Haven't used it but I am not having that issue. Atleast I don't think. The "3G" is white but the Upload/DL arrows only come on once in a while. I will try spare parts out since you've mentioned it, before I reset.

How will this effect the updates that have launched since release .. Thanks in advance.

Doing a factory reset has helped almost 99% of the people that have done it and produced amazing battery life afterwards. The key is that the People application is constantly running a Facebook sync and draining battery life. The factory reset seems to correct the issue and allows the Facebook problem to fix. If you're getting poor battery life and have a Facebook account set up, reset your phone - or wait until the expected firmware update from HTC/Sprint. http://www.androidcentral.com/another-update-evo-4g-coming-soon-sprint-and-htc

Get 'Astro File manager' from the market. With it you can back up all your currently installed apps to your SD card, and after the wipe easily reinstall them without having to re-download.
I also suggest 'Bookmarks to SD' for doing the same with browser bookmarks.
