I just upgraded from an LG EnV2 to a Droid 2 Global. So far I hate it! I don't like the touchscreen & the keyboard isn't very easy to use either. I mostly use my phone for texting & email. I thought I would like having the internet on it, but it's small & difficult to navigate the internet on the Droid.
Has anyone else hated the Droid to begin with, but ended up liking it? Should I just give it more time?

I went from a BB Storm to my DG2 and wont give it up to anyone. It is a fine piece of equipment. Did you not handle it at the store before buying?

When I got my D2 I haaaated it for like the first week. I was deadset on returning it. I came from the iPhone 3G. Then one day I decided to sit both devices next to each other and do a variety of tasks I would normally do (browse the web and send some emails w/ attachments, check email, make notes, check weather, etc.). The iPhone was connected via my home wireless. It was then that I realized I was just being a baby and was just dealing with the shellshock of a switch from a phone I used for two years. The D2 blew the iPhone 3G away with speed and with so much more you could do. Now I loooove the thing! I just want to say right off - the physical keyboard gets a LOT better in time. It truly needs breaking in. When you first get it it feels stiff and not very responsive. Use it for a while and it's like butter, works beautifully.

As for the screen, I love it! Small enough to not be a brick on my belt but still very high resolution. When using landscape I almost never need to zoom. Keep in mind a quick double tap does a "quick zoom" that enlarges the page a bit for better viewing. I find navigating the internet on it simple and easy, not sure what you meant by that. I can easily select a bookmark, go back, go forward, etc.

Anyhow, so yeah, at first I hated it and now I absolutely love it. You might want to at least give it a week or two to make a final decision.

If it's difficult to navigate the internet, I'm guessing you aren't zooming the page.

The keyboard is extremely simple, that is if you're referring to the physical keyboard.

The touch screen on my D2 is very smooth, much better than my old Omnia.

For the on-screen keyboard, try Swype - much better than stock in portrait mode in my opinion. If that doesn't do it for you try some of the other keyboards in the Market and see if you find one that you like.

Personally I like my X a lot more than my D2G, I don't care about a physical keyboard and the X's screen size is about perfect for me. However the D2G's GSM radio is a necessary evil for me so it's my work phone. If you don't need the Global part, perhaps an X would be better suited to your style?

You can also play with the Droid Pro if you need the physical keyboard but don't like the D2G's style, if I were still a two-thumb typist the Pro would be my choice, but Swype is a one-thumb keyboard and I've gotten used to it.

The double-edged sword of Android is that you've got a lot of choices but with choices come a lot of decisions :)

I would install "launcherpro" for a better home screen experience. (But also download "home switcher" in case you want to switch back to the stock launcher)

I also recommend downloading "swiftkey trial" as a replacement keyboard. The trial is 31 days. Androidcentral just recently posted an article about it. It is very simple and the predictive text is unbelievably smart. It studies your patterns of the words you type to predict. After the 31 days are over you can decide if you think it's work buying. For me, I was blown away and I've tried pretty much all the keyboards available.

All three apps are available for free in the market.

Either way, you get 30 days to try the phone before returning it for another phone or canceling. Give it a fair chance; you'll learn to love it. Keep us posted; I'm interested in what you decide.

When I first got my d2 I was OK with it then over the course of a month I began to hate it at first it was faster than my oc d1. Then I started to get horrible battery life and come to realize blur sucked. Now with a custom rom and underclocked I like it it does what it need and quickly.

I would give it at least the 30 day return window. It takes time to get used to a new device. I had the Env>Storm>Droid X and each takes some getting used to. I also have a D2 (work line) and end up using my DX most of the time for the bigger screen. Double tap to zoom will definently help with the navigation in the browser. New keyboards do take time to get used to.

Personally I have a Droid Incredible, my wife has a droid 2. We were both blackberry users that converted. I HATED my Incredible the first day. I actually packed it up and was going to send it back. I reactivated my Blackberry. The next day I figured I should give it a few days to try it and get used to it. You couldn't pry it from my cold dead fingers now.

Mostly, it's something new, and you have to learn how to use it. Change is hard, but I believe you will grow into it and then you will never go back. Touch screen is a transition, and I agree I'm not the biggest fan of the keyboard. I had an Envy before the blackberry. I did love the Envy Keyboard the best. Now I only have a touchscreen, but I love it now. It's just a learning curve that hard. You will really like the phone's capabilities once you are used to it.

I also converted from the EnV2 and loved that keyboard. If you give it more time, you'll get used to the D2 keyboard. Try zooming before clicking any buttons on webpages.

When I got my D2 after being on a Blackberry for 2 plus years (Tour, Bold) I hated the D2 bcause of the keyboard and the fact I'm not much of a touch screen fan but after a week or so I started loving my D2 and now won't even consider taking this phone back to reactivate my Bold. I just had to give myself time to get used to this phone and its keyboard.

For the first time in my life, I bought the wife a better phone than mine... I have the D1 and she got the D2G - it is a great phone, super powerful, and so far she is loving it.

Just needs to be broken in
keyboard takes getting used to
figure out the touchscreen calibration
Just get used to the new phone

I changed from a Droid Eris to a D2. Hated it at first, the bulk/weight, and I missed the call/end buttons. My Eris is tricked out with KaosFroyo and an extended battery, really slick. So after a couple of D2 weeks I reactivated my Eris.

I ran my old Eris for a week or so and I began missing some features of the D2. I missed the speed, D2 (1Gz) is hella faster than the Eris (even @ 768Mhz). I missed the resolution. And I missed the flash support and longer battery life.

I reactivated the D2 and I am pretty happy with it. I find that it runs music forever (it freaks me out -- how does it do this?), and since I have moved over to using tapatalk more often rather than web, I rarely even get below 60% on the battery for the day.

You shouldve looked into android and smartphones in general before buying it the keyboard on the D2 kinda sucks but fkr the internet theres this thing called pinch to zoom....try it out but yeah u shouldve test drived the phone and read reviews....

He sounds like a little baby that got a new toy and then wanted more so he cry's and says how bad it is hoping to get something else.

there no reasons to be disappointed with the Droid 2, with all change there is immediate discomfort. But after a little time of settling with the device you will find that your productivity and enjoyment are higher than with any other device you have owned. you will optimize its usefullness and be a power user in no time.
