just got the 4.4.4 soak test

It's working for me pretty well. More responsive. The cameras are better as well, especially the front camera, no more lines or grainy look anymore.

Only issue I've ran into is wiping the cache in recovery, takes 5+ minutes.

Out of curiosity, I decided to do that myself and see what happened. It was definitely way past 5+ minutes for me. I started at 1:01 p.m. ET per my computer, and ended at 1:14 p.m. ET. That's 13 minutes.

I'll do it again tonight and see if it's any quicker, as for all we know it may be a one-time long cache wipe ordeal, but during the day I really need to leave the phone on, so I don't want to risk having it off again, especially if I have another double-digit minute ordeal.

Hmmm odd. I have an Ultra, and while i can't say that I'm in the soak test because that's confidential, i can say that after whatever happened to my phone last night i still have my G+ picture and it still takes me to my contact card if i press it.

I guess this is why there is a soak "test". To squash issues like this.

Heh. When I did the cache cleaning I talked about, now Google Play says to "update" (basically new installs) of Motorola Alert and the soon-to-be-renamed ISIS.

Have any of you been able to see if Chromecast (ver 1.7) offers a cast option for your Maxx running 4.4.4?

Devices listed to support include
Nexus 4
Nexus 5
Nexus 7 (2013)
Nexus 10
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 (2014)
HTC One M7
LG G Pro2
LG G2
and LG G3

No dice. Uploaded the new APK so I had the updated Chromecast (had to turn off some security settings to allow the sideload). Turned on Chromecast to sync with TV, Hit home button and went to settings --> display menu. Nothing shows up in the Wireless Display search after a reasonable amount of time had passed. Chromecast app doesn't look any different either.

Turned off the phone and rebooted it, just in case that needed to do the trick. Still no dice.

So for now, no advanced Chromecast support for the Droid Maxx 4.4.4.

Hey question for u guys, does anyone know where I might be able to find the apk file for the newly updated people app that got redesigned for 4.4.3?? I figured I could side load and install that app since I know the dialer wont work.

Have you noticed in 4.4.4 - When you pull down the right notification shade, is your google+ photo there in the upper right tile? Mine is not there anymore, just the default "no user" image.

Mine wasn't showing up even before I got the update. Installed the update last night and just now wiped the cache (which did take about 10 minutes by the way, but I hadn't done it forever). Now my google+ picture is showing up again.

I assume none of you are rooted.

This phone didn't really need root, unless you have unlimited data and want to tether. I'm not sure 4.4.4 will be worth giving up tethering for.

Mine has worked since the install finished and I didn't need to wipe the cache.

Anyone have a link to the zip? I'm not in on the Feedback Network, but I'm ready and raring to side-load the update... :)

I CANNOT VOUCH FOR THIS (YET), SO BE WARNED AND PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Read this below thread and see if it helps. I did a search for posts containing "MAXX" since yesterday, July 9th, and this is what I got.

[4.4.4]Kit Kat 4.4.4 OTA Patch - XDA Forum

It sounds like it's the actual 4.4.4 patch and not some custom one. If I had time I'd sniff into it more for my wife's phone but I don't, hence my all-caps warning.

If you go to settings, storage and scroll to the bottom there is something about USB DISK /STORAGE /USBDISK. Anybody know what this is for?

I suspect it is the support for plugging in a USB device (like a thumb drive). This functionality was in some earlier versions, but got lost at 4.4, I believe. This is the reverse of the usual role, where the phone acts as the USB device attached to, say, a laptop.

Nine minutes just now in a retest of it so anytime you clear the cache in recovery mode, expect not to have your phone for about 10 minutes or more.

I saw this update is supposed to add Isis (or whatever they're going to call it) support. Does anyone know of it breaks Google Wallet tap-to-pay? I know on some phones Wallet was blocked because of Isis. Really hope that's not the case here. I use Wallet tap-to-pay once in a while.

That was a while ago, and I'd be surprised if Verizon would block it now. That would be enough for me to dump them and activate a Nexus 5 on AT&T.

Part of the problem is this change log is almost identical to the one we got for the original KitKat OTA. Feels very phoned in. And Isis was enabled at that time anyway, so the only reason I can see it getting top billing again is to remind folks it still exists. These carriers are always trying to replace native functionality with their inferior versions, so this Isis noise is par for the course.
