Ok so just came over from iOS to a Nexus 6 yesterday. I love it the phone it is slick, the screen is nice and big and the UI is great. I'm really impressed with it, considering it is a massive phone. My only issue is the battery tab says I only have 6 hours on battery life in the phone. That doesn't seem right, I'm a little concerned about this because before I got it the reviews said it had a good battery life in it. I just got it so maybe it needs time to settle in or maybe the battery needs to be calibrated, or the battery app built in to the phone is not accurate. I'm not sure, my big issue is the phone needs to get me through the day at least 12 hours and all the reviews seemed to support the notion.
So should I be worried about this? Should I return it while I still can? Are things I can do to optimize the battery that I haven't done yet? Please let me know

First of all congratulations for the new phone, now explain what do you mean by 6 hours of battery life? 6 hours of Screen On Time or just 6 hours of the phone sitting on standby ?

When I go into settings, and tap on the battery tab. The phone tells me I only have 6 hours of battery life left, it doesn't tell me if its stand by or 4g. A couple of seconds ago the battery went down to 90% and the battery life went up to 11 hours. I'm kind of thinking that the phone's battery might need to be calibrated, as I just got it yesterday afternoon.

Just don't bring your battery to 0 percent it doesn't need that it only hurts the battery, charge it before it gets below 10 percent for optimal battery efficiency and you will be alright. I think you will be able to get very decent battery life with the N6, enjoy your phone :) and if you have any questions just ask .

I made the exact same post a few weeks back. The battery life indicator is dynamic. It tells you how long your battery should last based on how you've been recently using it.

If you charged it and then disconnected it and let it sit for an hour without touching it, it would tell you something ridiculous like 12 days left.

I have a horrible signal where I teach. I normally get 12 hours and see about 30% left. I've gotten 19+ on my off days.

I've only had mine for a couple days but so far I'm having better battery life than my last two phones. I've been pleasantly surprised.

@ OP: It takes a little time for the software to properly gauge battery capacity and predicted life. Mine became much more in tune with reality after about a week or so. As others have said, expected battery life will vary depended on your usage.

really that helps?

It helps in that fully depleting lithium rechargeable batteries lessens the number of recharge cycles it will manage over its lifetime. It's not the 'worst thing in the world' - you probably wouldn't really notice a difference over the normal span that people own a smartphone these days unless you made a complete drain a habit - but it should be avoided when possible.
