I have the M8 and love it, best smartphone I ever had. What are the main advantage and disadvantages of upgrading to the HTC 10?

Cheers

The M10 "feels" better, more like my old M7. It is snappier, great screen, and just "feels" better than the older phone. I upgraded from an M8 as well, and love the phone, no regrets.

Snappier?! But the m8 is already very fast on Marshmallow. Even faster? What about the front speakers sound quality?
Thanks

Off the top of my head, as someone who went from the M8 to 10...

Advantages:
Bigger screen without feeling “too” big, imo (one might say the M8 had a ‘perfect’-size screen if it suits your needs though).
Slightly faster performance.
Better all-around camera.
Fingerprint sensor (never really needed one, but I started using it two weeks ago and it is nice to have).

Disadvantages:
Lack of front speakers (which isn’t a dealbreaker as the 10 has solid audio still, but it makes itself apparent when there’s a phone ringing or an alarm going off… I miss the loudness from the M8 which made it rare for you to miss a call/alarm.)

Thanks. But I am still debating if it's a truly noticeable and worthy upgrade. I'm not sure if it is, especially when I replace my dying battery.

My 10 was delivered yesterday and I have been setting it up a bit. Like it so far. My last HTC was the M8 and M7 before that. Loved both of those very solid devices.
The speakers are fine and sound good, although volume is less the richness and quality are nice. Coming from an MXPE which had loud speakers the 10 is fine and their sound quality makes up for any volume lack IMO.
Adjusting to a smaller screen is maybe going to take another day or two. I lost a half inch of screen RE compared to the MXPE. I'll get used to it and again I get a tradeoff. Lighter device and more pocketable is good and a worthy trade for the lesser screen size IMO.

One thing bugging me is the notification light. I knew it was there going in to this deal and have not had one for a couple years at least. But there should be a way to turn it off completely at least at nite in "Do not disturb" mode maybe. I don't see any option to do that. It's either on always or on when screen is off. Was hoping for a work around but I guess I can turn it over on the night stand. It's easier to check the time at nite with it right side up tho. Once I wake up and see that light blinking it just annoys is all. What does everyone else do? Also, in settings I found the section for which notifications to allow the light to blink. I turned off all but missed calls and texts. Well, I had no calls or texts last night and the light was blinking. Is this a bug? Rechecked my settings and they were still in place.
Seems a solid device, none are perfect but I'm liking it a lot and happy to be back with HTC.

Glad to help. What I’ll add to that is that you should take stock as to whether or not there’s one or two things on the newer device you’d absolutely want to have sooner than later. For example, the two things that primarily pushed me forward were wanting an improved camera and a device with a better battery situation. I had gotten the new Android on my old M8 and from what it looked like, it actually improved my overall speed and battery use. Then the charging port on my phone became very inconsistent out of nowhere. After some haggling with Sprint, I got a refurbished M8 for free, but the battery on it was noticeably worse than the phone I had for around a year-and-a-half before that. Something like that happening made my decision to upgrade much easier.

If the M8 is suiting you and you don’t feel the need for anything right away, then I’d say you’d be fine with staying there for a bit longer if you’re happy with it.

Thanks! The only issues I have with my m8 are exactly those, the usb port is not working correctly (I have to move the cable for it to charge) and battery is worse and worse but in the end of August I will be fixing the port and replacing the battery in a proper repair shop, it should cost me 50 euros so I think it's worth it. I love the camara, to be honest.
Cheers

I really like this phone, battery life is great, Bluetooth volume is still erratic (I think its a connection thing), but I still really like this phone.

I'm happy with mine. Had it about 3 weeks. Nice to be back with HTC. Had several from years past and liked them all. Coming from a MXPE(my 3rd phablet in a row) most recently it is nice to be at a more manageable phone/screen size. No more phablets for me.
After a couple of wifi adjustments my signal is better and since I only use it at home it's now pretty much a non issue. RF signal could be better, but I've not dropped any calls and they always sound clear so maybe a non issue also.
Love all the themeing options. Nice touch HTC. Keeps it interesting. I don't get the screen complaints from the amoled fans. My screen looks awesome, sharp and clear, brightness set around 75% is fine. I have little reason to use it in sunlight except for an occasional call and it's easy to see for that.
Build quality is top notch, love it. A very minimal case keeps it secure in hand.
I never cared much for sense in years past, but find I'm liking it a lot now. Blink feed is fine as well and I enjoy having it set up and handy. My one other launcher is Action Launcher and I swap back and forth to keep it interesting. I like the way HTC makes is so easy to change launchers.
Battery life has been fabulous. My MXPE was struggling to get thru a day, same size batteries and of course with the bigger screen I can understand the increased power demand, but while it used to go all day it frequently would begin to falter by evening far to much. The HTC has no problem going all day with plenty left over.
The speakers sound great. Less volume than the MXPE, but much richer, more satisfying, better sounding tone quality. I think all phones should have dual speakers and high end models like the Note 7 and Iphones which are insanely priced should come standard with dual speakers. It just sounds better.

I think the HTC 10 is under rated by a long shot and while most reviewers gave it a pretty good score, the buying public mostly gave it a pass. Samsung's marketing engine pretty much blows everything else out of the water, but after having a couple of samsungs over the years I've never quite swallowed all that is Samsung hype. Amoled, yeah, I get that, people love it, but not all of us and personally I dislike it so glad we have the choice. the rest of Samsung is equally overblown IMO. In any case I'm done with them. I hope HTC continues to make good devices. As an old fan it's nice to be back. Just my .02

I love my HTC 10. I have it now for two weeks, and every day I like the device more and more. Battery life is good, better than on the Nexus 6P, the display is really very good (and I was worried about it) and also very good in direct sunlight.
The Sense UI works beautifuly, and very smooth. BlinkFeed is good and I love the theme engine for customizing my phone. The audio is also great.
The camera is very good, better than on the Nexus 6P.
Overall this is the best device HTC has ever made. It is also the best phone I ever had.

I agree that the screen is very good despite being LCD. Best one I've seen on any LCD phone. Samsung's newer AMOLED screens give you an sRGB mode that give a completely natural true color look. So that part is no longer an issue.

I still far prefer my S7 Edge, particularly because of the camera and Samsung Pay, and it's identical size wise to the 10, but it's exactly the same size exterior wise. But the HTC is a bit quicker, and Sense is far less bloated and more useful in some respects than TW. You can't really go wrong with the 10 as long as you don't use polarized sunglasses while using the phone. That's ultimately what made me return it. I couldn't see the screen with my sunglasses on.

Thanks for the sunglasses tip. I had forgotten about that. I was planning on getting a new pair in the next couple of weeks. I'll be sure and have my phone with me to make sure I get the right kind.

Samsung made a very stupid design decision when they created the S7. It's made of glass. I don't understand why people buy something that they will most certainly drop at some time entirely made of glass! Yes it's pretty but what's the point of that if you're hiding it behind a case? Iphone 4, 4s, Samsung S6, S7... Ridiculous.

Maybe, but the metal on the HTC seems to ding pretty easily.

Pay your money, take your choice.

I prefer scratches than braking completely. I have a HTC one m8 and use it naked. It's nicked but will never brake. Same goes for plastic. Phone made of glass? lol

I disagree. I rarely drop a phone, so glass isn't an issue. Nicks and scrapes from general use (like wearing a wedding ring) are a massive pain though. I partly bought the 10 because I thought I wanted a metal phone, now I'm not so sure.
